Dream pop is a subgenre of the alternative & psychedelic music genres that arose in the 1980s in the United Kingdom.
It is a music genre that relates to complete engrossment in the music owing to its dreamy & wispy characteristics.
Generally, dream pop is characterised by vocals with high concentration of reverberation & transcendental instrumentals featuring electric guitars & synths that puts the listeners in a sort of trance(sort of how the genre "trance" does too). The vocals almost melt & blend into the instrumental giving a feeling of sonic oneness.
The lush, metaphysical vibes that the genre exudes totally enrapture the listener, focusing on sonic textures that give off a feeling of being on drugs.
It usually leaves the listener with a feeling of ecstasy(pun intended) & puts them in a state of sweet drug-induced drowsiness that they can't seem to escape.

Best hours for listening to the genre : 21:00 - 5:00.

Notable subgenres & derivatives : Chillwave, Post rock, Shoegaze.

Yesh, some songs only use the breathy vocal effects upto a certain extent, whilst others go all out.
It could be a bit annoying for some as it all sounds like a @LucidDream lacking clarity.
The vocals aren't at the forefront or in your face.
It's just a very cohesive instrumental.

I feel like Melody leans more towards psychedelic pop while Swiimers is closer to the post-rock end of the spectrum. Also check out Rainbow99 if you haven't heard him, especially his monthly releases. And there's a big dreampop/shoegaze scene in New Zealand lately. Yumi Zouma, Fazerdaze, somewhat Beach House-sounding stuff.

Melody used to be more psychedelic when Kevin Parker produced her music.
And I would add "The Naked And Famous" to that list, although their music doesn't nestle too much in the dream pop genre.
