Am I doing this three days late? Yes.
I'm going to rank some of my favourite comebacks by the end of the month. January was an interesting month as a lot of songs were growers on me. So lets get into the countdown:
I'm going to rank some of my favourite comebacks by the end of the month. January was an interesting month as a lot of songs were growers on me. So lets get into the countdown:
12. 1, 2, 3 - Ab6ix
I don't listen to this song anywhere near as much as the other but I still like it so I wanted to include it. That's why it's in 12th. It's a very bright and uplifting song (ironic considering the first part of the MV is in black and white). It's one of those songs that just put a smile on my face. I just want to get up and dance when I do hear it.
11. Lost On Me - Eric Nam
I love this song, and the whole album is amazing! This is totally my style of song, and it's so well-written. His voice is so captivating. Well, why did I rank it so low though? I'm a One Way Lover enthusiast.
10. LIE (Lost In Euphoria)
This was a song I liked before the music video was even officially released. I'm living for these KARD crumbs, and BM's solo songs are always fire. I usually listen to loud noise music so this is a little off my usual taste but it's just so good! I know it's three minutes but it still feels too short for me.
9. Tattoo - AleXa
This was very different from her last comeback, Xtra. But I love this softer era of AleXa too! The song sounds quite futuristic with the instrumental and her soft yet powerful vocals add a beautiful element. And her visuals are amazing! I really should listen to this more.
8. Smiley - Yena
This is one of those songs that I have heard the chorus more than the rest of the song (thanks TikTok). It's such a happy and fun song. It literally makes you do what the song tells you to do: smile. It's so infectious too, it becomes stuck in my head a lot.
7. Chronograph - Victon
A Victon song being here surprised nobody. Maybe it being only 7th surprises you though. The only issue I have about this song is the lack of Hanse in it. It is very catchy and something you can get up and dance to.
6. P1Harmony - Do It Like This
I found this underwhelming when I first heard it. But now I love it! Its less noisy in comparison to their previous title tracks. This is another one of those songs that hearing it on TikTok got it stuck in my head especially the "do do it do do it do it like this" part from the chorus.
5. Can't Control Myself - Taeyeon
I had this song on loop for days, it's just that good in my opinion. I like the progression of the song, the slow buildup really worked with her delicate vocals. Taeyeon is slowly going on my radar after this release, it actually made me check out her previous releases too.
4. Step Back - GOT The Beat (Girls On Top)
Now I'm very aware of the lyrics... and they're yikes
I even strongly disliked this song when it came out, I found it too "screamy" like they were yelling instead of screaming. I was expecting so much more from "the female Super M". So why is it ranked 4th? I'm addicted to it now! It's like the song followed me and now it won't leave my head. It really really did grow on me
3. Ruby - Woozi
Rock infused k-pop, now this is what I'm talking about! I heard very mixed opinions on this song before even listening so I wanted to see what it was all about. And I was on the side of "this is a bop". My On Repeat playlist agrees.
2. Blessed-Cursed - Enhypen
I actually didn't like this at first either. I'm disappointed that I didn't appreciate it's amazingness right away. It also has the rock-ish vibe that I normally like. And just the dance is so good. PS. Polaroid Love best b-side
1. Wa Da Da - Kep1er
After religiously following Girls Planet 999, I was really looking forward to Kep1er's debut. And they did not disappoint!! My only question: where did my girl Bahiyyih's lines go? It did allow me to have a newfound appreciation for the members that I didn't vote for throughout the duration of GP999. The styling, the catchy dance, the fact I'm mumbling the lyrics all the time, this rightfully earned its spot as my top song of January!
3/12 boy groups
2/12 girl groups
7/12 soloists
I think it's fair to say that soloists dominated this month for me.
