the only nontoxic cullens were carlise, esme, alice, and jasper ( I guess) Rosalie would have killed bella the moment she got the okay, and emmett would not stop her.

Also fuck team jacob/team edward.. both were toxic as hell

Well, I never had a real Twilight phase bc I was too young, but my sisters were obsessed
I did eventually read the book a couple of years ago, so I think Twilight was popular bc:

First, young girls/women were able to identify themselves with Bella, bc she is a normal, introverted teenager and a hot dude falls in love with her
Which is the dream of many girls. It also doesn’t help that Vampires are popular amoung girls bc they are often potrayed as attractive, mysterious and seductive
There is a guy for every taste, if you don't really like Vampires then you might prefer the Werwolves

Also the love triangle kept many readers excited

The "overprotective-more-than-slightly-abusive-and-controlling" trope was and will always be popular
If the guy is hot and has a tragic backstory, then it's even better

I personally don't like it either, but it sells
