As the resident music expert and NewJeans aficionado (not true) this is the definitive, objective, no questions asked, based tier list for every NewJeans song. Ranked from lowest to highest.
6. Cookie
Even if you ignore the questionable lyrics, Cookie is by far their worst song musically. BUT… it has a really cool performance utilizing benches and NewJeans’s worst track is still far better than a lot of other songs so there’s that.
5. Ditto
I think this song is great but I personally like the MV WITH the song, or the performance with the song. By itself, Ditto is quite bare. Still very very good by kpop standards, but not very good by NewJeans standards. My favorite MV of 2022 btw.
4. Attention
I don’t know how people feel about this song after NewJeans put out better things. It was so fresh and cool to listen to during its launch, and it still is, but in my opinion they have better songs than this. Still, Attention is great one of the best releases of 2022, the instrumental truly carries this song.
3. Hurt
This might be a hot take, but I kinda prefer Hurt over Attention. It edges it out by sheer vocals alone and I’m not even the the type that likes softer songs all that much but NewJean’s vocals, which aren’t the best or anything, fits so exceptionally well with their songs and Hurt is the perfect example of that.
2. Hype Boy
Hype Boy is like comfort food, I keep going back to it and it’s fun all the same. One of my favorite releases of 2022, one of my favorite performances of 2022. But my hype for Hype Boy has slowly died down. Still on repeat, but the glitter has faded.
1. OMG
Probably another hot take, but OMG hits harder than Hype Boy for me personally. The sameness of Hype Boy’s verses have been fixed, there’s a breakdown, the dance is fun and the MV is fun. This might be because of recency bias since it just released, but man, this song is a banger. How do they keep upping themselves? I don’t understand it.
