Why do we tend to automatically dislike members that get added after debut? (2 Viewers)

Some are worried they'll become CLC 2.0 as they don't seem to really have a clear direction.

I think CUBE is having a very difficult time making them stand out since they seem to be lost in the crowd of all the new gg. They don't really have a good niche that really sells them imo. They are kind of just... there.

At least with idle, you have Soyeon at the helm to guide the group and give them an interesting and unique direction... Lightsum doesn't really have something like that.

The 2 members lost were the youngest one. tbh I'm not sure why they left. There could be some behind the scenes things going on. It's speculaed that they might be able to do more mature concepts now with them gone, but that might not be the reason they left.... that's speculation.

We'll have to wait and see if this will result in a major direction shift or not I suppose.

maybe. it could also be the youngest members weren't feeling the idol life. I mean, they are young. School and other life stuff and being part of a group that's not really getting anywhere isn't a great position to be in.

who was writing the songs for CLC btw..? I remember Sorn promoting the group a lot, but at that point I had no idea how little CUBE actually does for their groups

yeah the GG market is really intense right now.. and I also see no way how you could even train someone to be like Soyeon, so you can't just hope that one of the idols in your group becomes like that, but I kinda feel like that is what CUBE is hoping for and when none of the members turns out to be a prodigy, the group is doomed

yeap and it's been 9 months since the release of Alive so that also doesn't bode well for them

is this really a consideration kpop companies make? Even if CUBE is kinda shady, they can probably easily afford to keep 2 more idols around and feed them, there has to be more to it

they can but why would they?
from a pure financial perspective if the costs > revenue they bring in then...
I've said it before that idols are the product and thus if the product isn't selling then time to remove/change the product

you are right, but aren't those companies usually clinging to those idols like bear traps and don't let them out of their contracts so easily if not something major happens?

true but maybe those two since they were underage were let go so the group can change their concept or something so attract new fans?
I think most companies aren't evil like BBC for example but they are profit driven so if the groups don't make money sure they can keep them in dungeons forever but it maybe more financially sound to try a different direction (since lightsum is still a rookie group)

Jungbin left due to a serious medical probelms iirc she might have had cancer I'm not exactly sure, so we knew she couldn't stay with Tahiti given her illness.

Less extreme cases would be Cignature, TO1, and PIXY, all of which had members leave, and later had members join to replace the missing members. I think having new members come in and essentially "replace" the old leaves a sour taste in fans mouths.

As someone who follows cignature and too/to1, seeing the members get replace is like so shallow on the compnay's behalf. Especially to1. Like replacing the more feminine members with masculine trainees was just so fucking bitter imo. I don't dislike the new members in both groups but god it's frustrating to see idols be so replacable.

and like I can understand it a bit more in pixy's case bc they are a smaller group so it's harder for them to shoulder the burden, but idk, I feel like for medium to large size groups, it would be better to keep it as is if a member or 2 leaves.

Ghost9 did this when Taesung and Dongjun left. They didn't add any new members at all, and they are honestly fine as seven members. They don't need anyone new to fill any gaps.

Yeah they left a couple of years ago. This is speculation on my part, but Dongjun's case, he has the most skill and interest in writing/producing. Prior to debuting in Ghost9, he did make some music as a solo artist, worked on music for other artists, and when he was with ghost9 he did get some credits on a couple of songs. I wonder if perhaps his interests and creative ideas eventually went elsewhere... that he felt he needed to move on to pursue something different. I'm honestly not sure what he's up to these days since he doesn't seem to have active social media... I hope he's doing well and still able to make fun, creative projects if he is still interested in that.

Yeah I heard for some of the fans of the new to1 members, they weren't initially happy with the arrangement either. It would probably be more ideal to start somewhere more fresh than just shoved onto a group with all that baggage... though there is a caveat in that those members were already on some survival shows in the past so... idk it wouldn't be good either to bounce back to another survival show again.... that's another pain. Still, the more ideal scenario is that they would be added to a fresh group's lineup.

Either way, you got people on both sides not happy for different reasons...

Without getting into all the nugu groups who have turned over, off the top of my head, we have:

1. Super Junior - SM's first attempt at a rotational group that added Kyuhyun a year after debut
2. Red Velvet - Yeri
3. NCT 127 - Johnny and Doyoung in 2017 and Jungwoo in 2018, which you could sort of say is their concept, but also, they've been basically unchanged since 2019, so I think it'd be quite surprising if SME rotated a member out and a fresh face in again.
4. Wonder Girls - Yubin and later Hyerim
5. FT Island - Seunghyun
6. N.Flying - Hwe-seung and later Dong-sung
7. WJSN - Yeonjung
8. Hello Venus - Seoyoung and Yeoreum
9. T-ara - Hwayoung, Areum, Dani
10. KARA - Hara, Jiyoung, and Youngji
11. Brave Girls - Hayon, Minyoung, Yujeong, Eunji, and Yuna. None of the current members are the same as at debut. Yes, I'm perpetually bitter about OG Hyeran being out.
