What was or has been your favorite school reading assignment? (1 Viewer)

In eighth grade, we read Animal Farm by George Orwell, and then 1984 (the book, not the year lol) in eleventh or twelfth grade, and I really liked both of them. Other books I enjoyed were:

Romeo & Juliet
The Human Comedy
Of Mice and Men
that book about a girl who falls for a POW and gets sent to a reform school (I can never remember the title or the author lol but I read it in ninth grade)
Frankenstein
Dracula
The Invisible Man
Time Machine

yeah, I was really into Gothic and dystopian fantasy novels at the time lol

oh "Bear Town" during my freshman year of high school was a good story. a little bit triggering for me at sometimes but i really liked it overall.
also really liked "Night" and "The Great Gatsby"

Seems like everyone except me read 1984, Animal Farm, or both in school, I read both outside of school but not for school. For me I liked Frankenstein and Brave New World most probably, along with Night (a memoir about the Holocaust)

it was awesome
but i didnt like the reading units, but i loved when we did the argument units

honestly its such a touching story. i had so much passion writing the essays i did for that book. so many chapters brought me to tears.

It is really emotional. Just thinking about how people have treated others so cruelly (both in the Holocaust and other events) are just so depressing, and reading about it straight from someone who actually experienced it just makes it so much more real. And thinking about how some people are convinced it didn’t happen, it makes my blood boil tbh But I’m getting off track, it’s a powerful book for sure though, and of course very sad. It should be a book that everyone reads at some point in their life.

The Great Gatsby
I loved the story so much I finished it way before everyone else and while we were all reading it out loud in class through the week I’d always be like this - when a big plot twist happened and everyone was shook. My English teacher also made it extremely enjoyable and we were geeking out about the book the entire time. His love for books and English made his class in general lots of fun. It was rare to see a teacher that genuinely loved what they taught.

animal farm (9th grade, though i read it earlier in 7th grade)
refugee (8th grade)
rebecca (we studied a small excerpt of it in 7th grade, i went on to read the full book)
literally every o henry short story we did
in 5th grade we studied an adaptation of the mahabharata, i obviously knew the story before we studied it, and i don't think i enjoyed studying it in school, but the mahabharata is one of my favourite stories ever
