no i did it in 5th i really has no use other than sigs but that's all
That’s the only use of cursive I can think of. In my province it became optional in 2006, until it was eventually phased out. And now its back. I did take it in the third grade.

It's gone the way of calligraphy.

I'd rather see something like basic finance. A "debt is bad, saving is good" kind of course.

And they need to be told the same lies while learning cursive. "If you don't write in Cursive in HS and College they won't accept your work." Then only to be told in HS and College, "if you write in cursive I'm throwing your work away." That was the best part of learning cursive!

I learned cursive when I was in elementary school, but it wasn't the best (I improved over the years until 5th grade, were more most of my notes were legible).

Learning cursive should be optional. The only time I use cursive is whenever I am writing notes or writing journal entries by hand. Most of the stuff I have wrote had to be typed on computer (especially college/uni).

Yes, maybe recognising cursive instead of writing it but writing is important too. How are people gonna read and preserve historical documents if we can't understand their writing hence their importance?

Edit: plus cursive is just faster and a better way to write lol. I always thought it was a pain in primary but then as I had to write more in high school I suddenly switched to cursive just to make my writing flow better yk?

The same way people in that field learn and preserve other archaic forms of writing. My older sister learned Archaic English for genealogy. Most history majors are required to learn another language and often if their particular direction requires atleast one ancient language.

I still think it's important for current to read older documents, to just open up their worldview and shit. Cursive will always be useful

Well is an everyday person going to be reading and preserving historical documents? :coronawimwim: I think a very very small percentage of the population would be in that situation. Also I’m not too certain about the idea that cursive is always faster. My little brother argued that he could write print faster than my mom or sister could write cursive, no matter which of them it was or what language they used (since my moms more comfortable it’s Russian cursive than English), and he was right, they never managed to beat him. Maybe if my brother knew and practiced cursive enough it would be faster than his print but I have my doubts based on that experience and his speed. I doubt he’s alone in writing print fast too.

No but it's an awfully useful skill to have. People can disagree but idc I think people having the chance to read old texts will always be important

Well that's him. But for me there's no way print is faster. Like I can write so much so crusive and I know with print I wouldn't be able to do the same. Plus it's just easier to write in cursive for me. Y'all can disagree but cursive is just better

actually, I just speed tested myself, and I can write print faster, too! lol only by like two seconds, but still!

But back on topic - I took cursive in third grade, and yeah, it's a very useful tool. Maybe not for forms and stuff that you always have to print, but cursive just has a way of flowing better, and you only have to pick up your pen(cil) to dot your I's, cross your T's, and start new words and sentences.

Useful how? Other than that tiny portion of people who are going to be reading those documents and oftentimes putting them into print form online for everyone's ease of access when relevant. There's virtually no need for anyone else to know cursive when whatever important documents will be in a form that doesn't involve cursive. After all, you don't know archaic English do you? But if you wanted to read an old document that was actually somehow relevant and wasn't destroyed ages ago you'd probably be able to do so in a translated form. I doubt that you've read many anyways because there's no real point but there's no difference to that and cursive. Old forms of writing/speaking that involve skills almost no one needs and are therefore (for archaic English) are not taught to everyone at random. Cursive is basically that, just new enough that some people try to hold onto it because traditions sake.

Well thats great your cursive is faster than print. I don't see how that makes cursive better as a whole, just better for you. It isn't necessary in any way imo aside from certain historians needing it, and why teach a form of writing because a couple will like it and find it faster and another couple people will possibly use it for historical reasons, while the remaining 100 will never use it other than for school and will forget it a few years later? That seems like a waste of time overall.
