People who doesn’t make any effort to learn the language of their living country. I mean if you move to a foreign country.

Would you make the effort to learn the language?

I find that so disrespectful to live somewhere for smth like 20 years and not being able to say a single sentence in their language.​

I'm of the opinion you should try to learn basic conversation skills before going to a country so it's a balance of a reason amount to learn in case you never really use it again while still being respectful to the country

Yeah so if you can't say a single sentence while living there that's just flop as even with basic conversational skills you should be able to string together a couple of sentences

I think it can depend on the context, but atp, why not try to pick up more of the language? It only makes your life more easy and practical. Even if it's hard to do, just a little work everyday can go a long way.

I can understand that learning a second language (or third or fourth) is very difficult. I don’t expect anyone to be fluent in the language of the country they are moving to. It could be beneficial to learn a few simple phrases or communicate in some other way.

Personally, if I'm going to move to a country that doesn't speak English as the national language, I'm going to want to make sure that their language is one that I absolutely love and would want to devote myself to. I know that you might move because of work or school opportunities, in which case the language wouldn't be much of a factor, but it's something I'd want to stop and think hard about. Either way I'd learn the language and adapt, but it's going to be such a huge part of what your life will be like, so it should be something you actually like, I feel.

So if I want to move let’s say to Sweden I should learn it?
