huh??? must be different over there since here (down under) we (my friends and I) have never bought just a soda from any fast food chains...either it was as part of a meal or we just grab a cheaper one from the shops (when I say shops I mean supermarkets)

Are they fountain drinks or bottled? Because bottled drinks here will cost you at least $2.79 without tax. The supermarkets don't have fountain drinks

bottled...and they are cheaper than the ones at the fast food restaurants...again only commenting on Australian prices...
the only times we get a drink from McDs is the frozen stuff...
I'm not sure what you guys call it there but here we call it
Frozen Coke or Frozen fanta (or whatever)

I've always wondered this about McDs. Are there places where a quarter pounder does not come with cheese?

In my country a quarter pounder automatically comes with cheese, you just order a qp. But I see online people saying "order a quarter pounder with cheese" as if there is a version without it.

Does that make sense? English is not my strong suit.

I am guessing that is for at least a medium... Unfortunately their sodas are still cheaper than the other fast food restaurant.

Well a quarter pounder without cheese is just a ham burger which most people wouldn't order over a cheese burger anyway.
