What Do You Want BLACKPINK To Accomplish In 2024? (1 Viewer)

Hello! So, 2023 was a wild ride for Blinks. They ended their long and well deserved world tour (or most of it anyway), there was a bunch of contract drama near the end of the year and it was a mystery who would sign where and do what and all that. That's on top of all Jisoo's solo and future acting roles, Jennie starting her own company, Pinkchella, member vlogs, all the laziness and lipsyncing rumors, the Crazy Horse drama, individual brand deals and so on. We may not have had a lot of new music or Lilifilms recently, but we got a lot of other things, both good and bad.

So, what do you think 2024 holds for BLACKPINK? Do you think another member will release more solo music? If so, who? Will we be lucky enough to be blessed with at least one group comeback, even if it's just a single? What artists will join Jennie's company? What do you think Lisa is dropping soon? Will we see them as a group more often, or will they continue mostly going their own ways, and occasionally meeting up once in a while?

To answer some of my own questions, I'm really hoping for a group comeback, but not expecting one. It would be nice though. I am expecting one of the maknae line girls to release more music sometime this year, but I could be wrong. I have no idea what Lisa is dropping, but I'm here for it and excited. I hope the rest of the girls join Jennie's company, because that would be wholesome and then they can stay together even longer. Speaking of which, I hope we see more of all four of them together, but I'm not counting on it, and can even understand why if we don't. Have a great day/night!

Me too. I think I heard she's currently filming for another drama, so we can expect more actress Jichu soon thankfully.

I think if BP doesn't release any new music this year YG will be really hard pressed economically so that's why I think they (YG) will like make sure of it

I love how Blackpink was pretty much the only thing keeping YG on the Big 4 status. No, they weren't the first but YG was extremely wounded after Blackpink decided they would take their solo contracts elsewhere.

That was kind of what I was expecting tbh. They wouldn't have taken so long to release what they decided to do if they had chosen to stick with both contracts. Especially since YG's stock was falling with the delay of even releasing any information. They probably decided that a long time ago and YG spent a while trying to get them to stay.

Yeah...but maybe they should've treated them better before so that they wouldn't have this problem. I think all the Twice members stayed partly due to how JYPE was treating them. At this point, they're probably they're most involved members in the creative process and they're not restricted in that. And pretty much all of their restrictions have been lifted as a senior group so they can date if they want and pretty much eat whatever they want as long as they watch their weight. But in general, the fact that the company also provides significant time off and won't hold back in getting members their time off if necessary speaks volumes.

Like Jeongyeon and Mina were absent for as long as they needed to and it seemed to me like they were never forced back until they were healthier and ready. I fear that Lia is going to have to take as long as a hiatus but it's a little worrying to me that she isn't in any music videos or song recordings (though people claim that that's when she went on hiatus)

for 6 years JYP (the man) had the ghost of Suzy haunt him that he not only failed but actively prevented any solo activities to the twice members...
prior to twice and BP there were only two GG in the entire history of GG that renewed with all members with the same company Dreamcatcher and Mamamoo*
thus for GG female idols generally have a "expiry period" whether you want to or not...it could be that you want to continue as a group but your team members don't they might have solo ambitions or date or want to start a family or acting or a variety of other reasons...and thus for female idols group renewals are just not on the cards
and guess what if one wants to continue in the entertainment industry then one better sure as hell stand out somewhat outside of one's group because if one didn't have solo activities during the first seven years it's going to be so much harder trying to get solo activities post 1st contract renewal...
now how does that tie back to JYP and Twice? well Twice had none (or very very limited) solo activities for the first six years and by the first six months of their seventh year they had more solo activities than the entire previous six years combined they only got their individual IG accounts last year...
therefore their best bet was to renew with JYPE since they had no presence outside of being twice

Personally I couldn't give two shits about JYPE or YGE I like Twice and I like BP I would always want the best for the members and therefore BP having individual companies is what's best for BP members
For Twice though you cannot tell me that JYP actively preventing (yes I said preventing) them from solo activities for 6 years is in the best interests of Twice members

Yeah, I feel like those are the downsides with Twice's career with JYPE and that they should've done these things significantly sooner. But I guess they had to prove themselves. That might just have been their policy. If they weren't mad at it, I'm guessing it might've even been in their contract. If that was and it seems like it was JYPE policy back then which is absolutely crap...look at the amount of cfs and solo activities we got from twice last year and this year
The only member without something major I think is Jeongyeon and that's unfortunate for her but literally all the other members have cf deals and ambassadorships and flying to paris for fashion week and releasing solos and subunits and all that...

now if that was in their first contract that specifically said no solo activities for the first 6/7 years then that is a really really shitty contract

I look at the twice members compared to the BP members - BP members had basically free reign over their solo activities which lead to them having more options and greater negotiating power
Twice members none (little solo activities) meant going into contract negotiations they were at a disadvantage

And then they learned the lesson (I hope anyway) that treating your artists well pays off. Too little too late though. Hopefully they don't screw up as much with Baemon, but I'm not holding my breath on that (and not just because I'm sick and it's hard for me to right now).

Fair point. They've already lost a lot of money and influence (to an extent) from the individual contracts not being renewed, and it'll only get worse the longer group comebacks are suspended.

I don't really like JYP the guy or JYPE the company all that much (a lot of their artists, yes, but that's different than loving the company itself). I will not defend his past mistakes and slip ups, even for a second, however, I do think that the company is improving, slowly but surely. Individual member activities are being prioritized more than they were in the past. Mental health and mental health breaks are taken more seriously by the company as a whole. Strict diets aren't really enforced (from what I know as an outsider, which admittedly isn't much), as long as their weight is fine. Dating bans are much more lenient, and are lifted for established groups. More famous artists have a huge amount of creative freedom to write and produce their own songs, and song covers. Younger artists are still sadly debuting, and I wish they weren't, but at least they aren't sexualized. All of these are things (except for maybe the creative control, I don't know the history with that) are issues the company has historically struggled with, but worked to improve in recent years. Make no mistake, the company has a LONG way to go to be better, and I don't excuse their past stuff, nor am I trying to convince you it's a magical, perfect company in any way at all, but this shows character development to me. I hope they continue on this path. They still hit the occasional bump, but it's getting there.

I do agree that Twice should have been treated better since day one. I'm just glad it's improving though. I also think you have a point about BLACKPINK having more contract renewal power, because since they all released at least two solo songs or more before the contracts expired (You & Me didn't quite make the cut technically, but it's close enough so I'm counting it), they could leverage that, and I'm sure they did.
