BadVillian’s Ina in hot water over a stylist’s choice and issued an apology acknowledging to do better and reminding fans that a lot of decisions are not hers. 143 is a disgrace of a company and justice for Gaeun. ILLIT’s English version of Tick Tack has some wildly inappropriate lyrics (wtf was their company thinking?!).​

Genuinely curious if you or someone else knows: are any of the members of the three groups popular enough individually for a solo career to be realistic? I feel like we always see idols trying that route vs the less frequent redebut as a new group ala Gfriend -> Viviz or Brave Girls -> BBGIRLS.

I think what's going on actually makes sense, especially with NJ and Fromis. The girl group market is bursting at the seems. I was shocked to learn that nearly 200 girl groups debut last year. HYBE's market cap is dropping like water fall and their profits are down 25%. Their share holders are kind of freaking out. Now that I'm over my emotional panic of knowing I'm about to lose Fromis I'm not surprised at all. I don't think any of the girls are particularly happy being under the Hybe umbrella and I think HYBE is going to shed anything that either hasn't proven it's self profitable in the long term or still needs to see if it's profitable. Although Fromis has been lightly profitable it's definitely not the powerhouse that LSFM or NJ's has been. NJ's is the wild card. I think Hybe would love to keep their profits around but I don't think they can afford the drama. NJ's is great at making HYBE stock prices tank. I personally find it greatly amuseing that 5 girls can have such an affect on stock prices. I think all of the Fromis members will have awesome careers. They are all incredibly talented but just based on the sound of their letters I think it will mostly be solo schedules. Several have been acting, several have been producing/writing behind the scenes. Chaeyoung has been an incredibly successful brand ambassador. Supra recently credited a 25% increase in sales to just Chaeyoung being a brand ambassador. I'm dearly hoping/praying/getting ready to sacrifice pidgeons so Hayoung and a few members stick together and make a small group. A world without Hayoung as an Idol seems very dark to me. I think we're about to see a lot of groups not renewing contracts as companies downsize and seek better profitability. Although the international market is growing and has vast potential the decision making process of Kpop companies isn't good at making decisions based on those markets. They still think they can make decisions and act like the entire world isn't watching them. I'm not surprised that the situation with 143 happened. I'm not surprised that it's pretty much being swept under the rug in Korea.

Thank you for the detailed insight! You've reminded me that we've really seen a lot over the past year groups not selling as much as they had previously; the pandemic gravy train has run its course, and I'm not sure how much companies anticipated and adjusted their investments in advance or are left holding the bag now.

It sounds like the girls should mostly be able to find footing, even if it's in other ventures, so that's good. It's a pity that they invested so much of their lives and fromis_9 was really getting recognition (IIRC, every song on their single album this year broke the top 5) and then it's over. But there's something nice for ending on a high note too.

Honestly we've all predicted fromis_9 years ago.
I hope they continue as a group in a different agency cuz they deserve so much more.
I'm 80% sure that NJ will continue as a group under a different agency, but'll probs change concepts/redebut with a new member etc
