Sorry if I wasn’t clear. How can an individual not support someone being lgbt+ but still having no problem with it and treat them the same? I was under the assumption that supporting lgbt+ rights was supporting human rights, and respecting who they were born as.
well, my mom always raised me and my siblings this: "hate the sin, but love the person". even though it might not be a sin in their eyes, it will be in ours. We still love the person no matter what they choose to identify as. Here in the south, lgbtq+ members are usually out numbered by people who don't support it but me, along with the most of the rest of this generation choose to not let our beliefs get in the way of friendship and we refuse to exclude them and spread hate. Even though for some, that's not always the case.

Thank you for explaining. As someone who studies communities and psychology it fascinates me how people view different perspectives and experiences. I grew up in the Church community but have since left due to personal reasons. So I mean no harm by asking the questions I do, just curiosity. I may not agree with everyone’s views but I do believe in respecting the opinions on others (whether they align with mine or not). We are constantly learning from each other.

I mean this in the most respectful way and am just trying to learn. How can the two coexist?
@HelluvaPuppy correct me if I'm wrong, I think you meant that:

Religious beliefs may teach against lgbtq so it might disallow support but you don't go and actively hinder or harm lgbtq right?

It's just not something that plays a big role in how you treat others at all, if I understand correctly.

====
Relating this back to my personal experience, I tend to adhere to a unconfrontational demeanor. I can interact with a wide range of people on a friendly basis so long as I avoid conflict-prone topics, and treat everyone with basic respect due to a person. So long as fundamental conflict is not met, there is no reason to treat anyone differently. Often, interactions can be sanitized of emotion for easier interaction.

I think that's what I was trying to say but I drew it out more lol

Seconding @Horizonshard. I finally tried them a few years back after all the RAVE reviews, and it is mid af. Like, I'd rather buy a bag of frozen popcorn chicken. It'd both be cheaper and taste better.

Plus, their anti-LGTBQ+ stance, where they fund organizations hostile to my friends and family, their CEO is publicly anti-LGBTQ, and they have been called out by GLAAD for not having good workplace protection for any LGTBQ employees... You'd think they could at least have delicious food that would make people overlook their hateful stances, but no. They're offensive all around.
Ngl I feel like this sums it up well. Good food isn’t usually an excuse for something you morally oppose, but bad food is an even worse excuse :lisalaugh: Maybe not everyone thinks the food is bad, but I just don’t like it. I’ve only been once, but I probably wouldn’t have gone again regardless of all of the other stuff.

As for the question about hate the sin but not the sinner, that’s fine if it’s your view, especially if you truly don’t wish anyone harm or treat them different. But the money isn’t just going to causes like hate the sin but not the sinner, it’s going to efforts that hate the sin AND hate the sinner. So if someone has a moral view of opposing homosexuality but supporting the idea of treating LGBT people equally, then there’s still reason to oppose Chick Fil A, because they’re still going against that moral view. For me I honestly don’t care that much, they have the right to do some of that as of present day (though some may have become illegal, like workplace discrimination). Just as I have the right to choose to not go and spend my money there, which while diluted by that point, can go to funding anti LGBT rights rhetoric. If someone else wants to eat there I’m not that opposed, it’s your life at the end of the day and my views shouldn’t always be what’s required, but the reasons for not going that I and some others share are at least partly founded in reason, not just a “the left says to boycott so we’ll unquestioningly do so” like some seem to think happens. People can make their own choices with these types of things.

And a reminder that the food was mediocre at best :teatea: The most important point for me

Their overt Christian ideology. I don't know anything about the food, as I had quit eating chicken before they arrived in my state.
nuuu ;-;
