Have you ever seen a movie in a mostly empty theater? (1 Viewer)

I'm trying to gauge how weird it would be.

yeah, yesterday i went to see a polish comedy-drama about women's lives at 2pm and there was nobody but me other movies i watched almost alone because i keep track of this:

• babylon (another 12pm in on a weekday screening so that's probably why there was nobody but me)
• happy feet 2 when i was a kid in a movie theater in a shopping mall
• twisters on a 10am screening because i was obsessed with that movie (and so were the three people who went there)
• nightmare alley at 10pm in a shopping mall theater
• rocketman at 1pm in a shopping mall theater (sucks that there was no one because that movie was great)
• love lies bleeding
• a polish crime comedy i went to see with my grandma because one of her favourite actors was in it (the guy died 2 years after the movie)

when you don't have much to do in your life and go to theaters at random times where most people work it happens a lot

I feel like some movies are just great on a bigger screen too!

I want to see Mickey 17, but there are, like, 0-6 people going to any given showing this week (that I can actually go to) and I worry it'll be weird.

I did one time but this was 3 weeks after the release of the first Thor movie and it was like an 8 PM showing.

I was wondering that. I'm sure, like, once the theater gets dark, and the movie is showing, it'll be fine. It's just the oddness of having so much space to myself + knowing staff are going to have to ... IDK, do whatever it is that they do after a show is over.

Many many times, I only go when I can expect the fewest people. I like it personally. I'm not a fan of sitting with lots of us familiar humans.

I want to see Mickey 17, but there are, like, 0-6 people going to any given showing this week (that I can actually go to) and I worry it'll be weird.

honestly i'd say all movies are better on a bigger screen, which is why i have a hard time catching up with streaming-only movies i'll definitely be seeing mickey 17 in theaters as well!! tbh i don't expect many people to show up either because polish audiences' taste doesn't align with mine but it never really matters to me because i'm here for the movie only. when there's less people i tend to have a better viewing experience since with bigger crowds there's always someone who doesn't know how to behave and keeps talking through the movie or spends the entire runtime on their phone

Sometimes I wonder if the divide in how people feel about a movie has to do with how they saw it. Like I really felt Oppenheimer seeing it on the big screen, but if it was just playing on my laptop, I think it'd be easier to think "what's so special about this?"

You and everyone else are convincing me to give it a go! I have a pretty empty weekend this weekend, so I think I'll go on Friday.

Many times. I purposefully wait till a month or so has gone by so the theaters are empty and I can watch it in the best seat.
I totally encourage and it's not weird

I used to go with a group of mates around Midnight and we did this often. Midnight was a great time as the theatre was usually empty except for us and we'd obviously get any seat we wanted. It was a little weird but tbh we preferred it empty.

Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim earlier this late last yr, I went to 10/11am screening just 20 minute walk from where I live(am show was cheapest, n I dint want to be spoiled by reviews/wait to watch it online on my phone)

It was ok, not as awesome as original trilogy or hobbit trilogy even. But it filled in some history of rohan.

I was also in afternoon screening of IF but I rushed to buy tix n I mistook IF for IF: Imaginary Friends starring Ryan Reynolds, IF was horror movie with Imaginary childhood horror monster I think. There wasn't AC, stuffy hall with only 1 audience me! I left after 10/15 minutes n I tried to get the management/staff to see abt the AC but I dint wait too long, I left as I dint feel like watching wrong movie in a stuffy hall with no AC. didn't ask for refund or return there n it shut down, nthg to do with me tho I think. Just no audience in afternoon n not sure abt weekends/nights as tix were ex so I dint go then. 2 cinema close to me(ish) n 1 closed down. Not enuf audience for one tat closed.
