An emperor of the Western Roman Empire. After the Roman empire was split into east and west (in 395 AD), there were 13 emperors. Of those 13 emperors, their cause of deaths are as follows:

Violent deaths
Assassinations: 4 definite, 1 more maybe after he was forced to abdicate, and 1 more maybe poisoned
Executions: 1
Killed by a mob: 1

All other deaths
Natural causes: 5 ish (2 with very short reigns, 2 deposed as emperors)

Those stats look scary, so if a time traveler visits me and asks me if I want to rule the Western Roman Emperor, I’ll pass Also between the years 472-476, 4 emperors came and went. Like the first of the four only became emperor in 472. But by 476, 4 of them either became deposed from the throne, or deposed from life. Like dang.

Well 4 or so of those who died violently were killed by or on behalf of future rulers, so those rulers probably expected something positive if they’d stoop to murder.

In the US Rome is always discussed at some point in a students time in history classes in school. Ngl sometimes too much if anything That said my experience can be a bit different because not everyone takes the same classes, but covering Rome is expected

High school, though some Roman history was discussed in middle school. But it was in less detail

I did a course on not only ancient Rome last semester but myth too so I had background knowledge in Latin If I study further in Latin I wanna do medieval Latin but I thought expanding my horizons would be better

Yeah it is pretty euro centric a lot of ancient history. There are many civilisations like the Indus Valley that could be studied but at my uni it seems only Roman and Greek classes are taught in the ancient history major. Idk why they don't have more classes knowing faculties like history (medieval to modern) have classes to do with Korean history for example. It's something that should be improved.

it's giving mughal princes ngl (for those who don't know, the mughal dynasty never really followed any set system for succession to the throne - except you had to be male. any of the emperor's sons, or technically any close male relative, could succeed. which is why you had mughal princes offing their brothers, and mughal princesses never marrying lest their husbands try to take over!)

Yeah in high school we covered stuff like Indus Valley civilizations and first civilizations in China, but only in AP world history. People who didn’t take AP world history wouldn’t have learned about it at all.
