I cannot find anything nice to say about this :runrunrun:
It's almost impressive how bad it is across the board? The waste of talent is on display.

That's the positive spin I've got.

Opening a song with boba tea, tesla, and fried chicken. :worry:
:haewhat: 'Making dumb beats for a boring dumb bitch'
Are we sure this isn't a youtube parody song? :tenconfused:
I saw on Reddit that the song was originally a joke TikTok that a producer (Alice) made with The Chainsmokers in 2023. So it makes more sense with that context (like they're poking fun at writing songs for other musicians), but it's like HYBE didn't understand that it's supposed to be played as a 20 second joke or bother to update any of the lyrics to make more sense in 2025, sung by a group who buys songs.

(That Tesla inclusion these days is yikes.)

only came across the song after i saw people on reddit talk about how bad it was. and holy fuck they were NOT lying... i thought i was maybe too old to enjoy this kind of music as it's simply not up my alley but apparently literally no one enjoys it, so i just wonder what the hell was going through the head of the person writing these lyrics and the people giving a green light to this song being released :wimwim:

There is one main reason why this song doesn't work, no matter how cringe it is: Hyperpop cannot work in such a corporatized and mainstream environment. It's literally the antithesis of K-pop. You can not buy a meme snippet off a well-respected hyperpop producer and expect it to go well. This is sabotaging the girl's careers.

Seems like the reactions from ppl are the same as mine.

Honestly if i saw anyone who shat on skz songs for being noisy and praised this, i would've given such a big snide eye. Especialy cuz twt skeletons keep comparing it to them.

Some ppl online say it's a "pr move" for more attention on the girls. And to that i want to say .... Is the pr move to lose the fans that come for "Touch"? It's not the worst song ever, i can watch it for shits and giggles, but idk if it would end up in my playlist.

And it's funny how u guys say, "it's not a good comeback for koreans" , i haven't seen much positive reviews from international fans either?

Side tangent but I have no idea what audience Katseye is marketing to. I've been assuming that they were always going for the western market but it seems like much of the fanbase are existing kpop fans? Idk if it's intentional or not though.
Marketing for in the kpop industry is less about the music, more about the members which I think if this song was sung by a traditional kpop group could maybe pass by a few international fans' ears. But the fact that it is in English with such disgusting lyrics (not in a content way necessarily, but come on guys) just means no English listener will take kindly to gnarly anyways. If Hybe wants Katseye to stay within the Kpop sphere, then they'll recover fine. If they want to push them further Western, then this may be a deal breaker.

Sorry about quoting and all lol your comment just set me off

No worries, yeah i don't know what their targer or agenda was either. Many say it's "to grab attention" ?

Ur right if the lyrics would be mostly in korean and some english thrown in ppl would be like "yeah random english words for intl fans" ... But like this?

I keep seeing that argument too, but it seems so nonsense to me. "Noise marketing" only means anything if it translates into actual sales. And I'm not seeing any talk going "Huh, because this song is so bad, I'm now going to buy this album."

Also, tbh, I think it's being promoted too seriously for it to be the PR joke some people are trying to spin it as. The original meme TikTok was clearly a joke, but it was also a goofy video shot in someone's house, not the clear monetary investment this MV and styling and promotion period they're doing is.
