blackpink is kinda paving the way for kpop girl groups in the west?

there's no doubt that bts definitely opened doors for kpop in the west and anyone who denies that (ahem 2nd gen stans ahem) is delusional. but I feel like the doors that were opened benefited the boy groups more then they did the girl groups. Many boy groups have been able to kinda get into the western market and have been able to go on the road that bts paved kinda.

but I have yet to see many girl groups being able to take that path, and if they do, they don't get as much attention. I think that blackpink is genuinely changing that, not only are they successful in America for what they are, but they also are slowly catching the attention of the gp and are really representing kpop girl groups in a good way.

I agree that snsd and wonder girls took the first steps but I don't think they left as much impact needed to really get the gp interested in them. they were still important of course and definitely opened the doors for other industries and styles of music.

it depends on what you mean by the first steps? in terms of the first kpop girl groups to try and venture out, snsd and wonder girls. but in terms of the first girl group that actually managed to have a decent amount of success and somewhat stick to the gp? id say blackpink.

They really just aren't active enough to have a real lasting impact in the big picture since all they really have as a staple is the coachella performance.

My post wasn't about whether they still have hype but about the impact to say Blackpink spearheaded kpop girl groups into the west isn't there because they aren't as active with it as BTS.

They're obviously a big part of it but I'd say currently it's basically a team effort between girl groups like Blackpink, Red Velvet, etc.

other girl groups are definitely doing good now but blackpink are still outperforming in everything, I think they're really the only ones who have success that is actually catching attention. id definitely say that more girl groups are making a name for themselves in America but blackpink were really the first ones to achieve some of the records that they have and still hold today which werent even doable for western girl groups.

that's very cool! but again, when talking about overall success blackpink really outperforms when it comes to these types of things. they sold out their European tour and were going to big arenas with big capacities. they ended up having the biggest world tour with the most attendance for a kpop girl group. I think that what girl groups like dream catcher are doing is great but what blackpink is doing right now would have been unheard of in the past for a kpop girl group.

agreed. im hoping that 2020 will be a different year for them, hopefully by then yge gets their shit together and are done with scandals so they can give the girls a comeback. but everyone who runs that company has shit for brains so expecting them to do anything remotely smart is asking for more than the bare minimum.
