idk man it's just not GIVING what it's supposed to give. I think my main problem is that none of these groups know how to give an iconic performance anymore, wheres the suspense?? wheres the presence?? also it's not even because of the pandemic, those crowds in the past weren't giving anything to the performance in the past except for those loud ass fanchants which tbh were carrying some groups performances when it came to the hype. how the hell are your fans gonna outperform you?? if anything I feel like these performances should be better because they're not nervous in front of a big crowd.

it's all giving me Inkigayo with an extra budget,
and money cant buy stage presence.

i mean i guess no one wants to go all out and spend 270k like bts at mma in 2018 if there isn't even gonna be an audience

if you're year end stage deprived here you go :pikahappy: I'm so thoughtful

this was last year though right?
I'm talking about this year specifically. but even then, I feel like the last good sbs gayo was in 2018. I think every big group was serving that year.

A lot of groups focus on dancing nowadays and if applied correctly can have stage presence even more captivating than a hype up the crowd performance but fitting the song is important too and a lot of what came out this year allows for neither like Oh My Girl proved they have plenty of stage presence with their Queendom stages but how Nonstop and Dolphin are hard songs to make a big epic stage out of.

I don’t even really feel like I have a problem with the dances. It’s just that there isn’t any suspense anymore when it comes to watching these performances.

I know I’m obviously biased but when it comes to blackpink, you never know what you were getting out of an award show stage, of course there were times when yg dropped the ball but when they went all out, they went ALL OUT. Like sbs gayo 2018 for example, blackpink had the best performance of the night, did they have the most props? No, definetly not. But the girls themselves were just oozing confidence and charisma. Especially after the terrible year that was 2018 when it comes to the hate blackpink got, (jennies “l*zy” scandal in specific) the girls coming out and giving the best performance of the night really makes the whole thing a lot better in perspective.

nowadays, I feel like I’m watching the same performance with the same concept every time. And it doesn’t help that it follows the same formula.

1 minute of some different music playing in the background, maybe a remix, the members walk out trying to look badass, either they have an awkward dance break or they start the song, the song cuts off in the middle and they have some special transition, (probably another dance break) they go the next song, perform that one all the way until the end, and then they end it off with yet again another dance break with them tying to look cool and either pull it off or look like a try hard.

it’s just not interesting or captivating.

Well have you ever just considered that you might be only into your faves as it's theme I've noticed where you complain about something with other groups and eventually swing back around to but Blackpink on the other hand!

I just don't think you can be objective like you consider yourself as you mention YG going all out for Blackpink but I distinctly remember one of their big performances with Ddu-du Ddu-du being just them performing in a cage which is far from what I'd describe as going all out.

I haven't been particularly wow'd by any of the stages I've watched so far either but that also includes my biases as while I thought some were nice overall I have yet to see an end of the year stage this year that I'd truly say is worth going out of your way to watch.

Well yeah I said that I have my biases in the reply, and I’m just bringing up groups that I’m familiar with. I could have brought up a lot of groups like bts or exo who both had great performances at the sbs gayo 2018, but in my personal opinion blackpink had the best performance of the night so I’m gonna bring them up as an example. And I don’t think I complain about other groups and then bring up blackpink. If I complain I just complain, I’m not trying to look hypocritical and get my girls dragged.

I said that yg drops the ball sometimes but when they go all out (sbs gayo, gaon chart awards, their rookie award show stages) they go all out. And I was the first one to complain about bps award show stages being boring sometimes, but tbh not because of the girls In my case I like to watch them. In 2017, when blackpink was performing as of its your last and playing with fire over and over again I complained a shit ton about how the songs were getting old. If there’s a bp performance where I think they could have done better , I’ll complain about it lmao.

I mean, the circumstances this year were pretty bad and the groups probably didn't have enough time to practice/prepare their stages.
Some shows didn't even provide waiting rooms for the Idols and they had to wait outside.

This year was pretty draining, they should have cancelled the shows.
