don’t you guys think it is hypocritical to point out that babymonster’s members are too young when we’re the same ones supporting groups newjeans, le sserafim, ive and so many more groups with underage idols?

i’m genuinely intrigued to hear yalls opinion on this because i, even though don’t stan any groups with underage idols, i do listen to some of them. so yeah.

I had similar thoughts. I might Stan NMIXX but I was I wasn’t blasting BM for their young ages. I notice there’s a cycle with kpop stans-
at first they complain when a group from a bigger company debut 14/15 year olds, and the whole discussion of minors in kpop comes up again but then after sometime the group starts releasing music ppl like and then the group gets popular.
everything people said before is disregarded and suddenly people are biasing said idols they seem to be against. This cycle has happened with so many groups especially ones in 4th gen.

It sure is but sometimes you gotta separate the art from the art form you know and that sounds absolutely crazy to a lot of people but you can like the music without having to support the company, or like the music without having to like the members.

Sure if you keep streaming their official stuff but you don’t really have to go down that route.
I’m just saying the enjoyment of the music is separate from whoever is making it

I try to never use 'the group has minors' as an excuse to not stan a group since it'd be kind of weird for me I stanned NCT Dream since predebut even though Jisung was as young as 14 when they debuted.

Mark himself was around 17 when they debuted that's the same age as a 2006 liner right now which feels insanely young to me.

I think what doesnt make sense to me with purely basing your opinion on "they're minors" and that it's exploiting then is that 99% of idols signed and trained under companies as minors and therefore most if not all of them have a high chance of being "exploited". Sure, Bangchan debuted when he was 21ish but he joined JYP when he was like 10?

I can and do think that the expected debut age for idols has always been WAY too young and that's because the industry prizes youth when we know as a fact that these idols would still be able to accomplish so much and be amazing if they were able to debut and join companies at a later age instead of not being able to be accepted if they're older than like 18 or 19

I think it is very hipcritical because so many artists do debut at a young age but it's weird how in K-Pop people get so up in arms over it. Jackie Evancho debuted at 10 years old when she won America's got talent. Taylor Swift was 13 and performing in bars. Avril Laveign was 15. Britney Spears was 15. Kristina Agulara was 16. What should be watched closely is who's watching THEM closely. Making sure they aren't being abused, taken advantage of, over worked. Are their education requirements being met? Do they have free time to be children? Focus less on their age and more on are they being treated appropriately for their age. I really like Classy but I'm kind of pissed off about new song because in the teaser they keep flashing XXX when members of that group are 15 years old. WTF... But I'm not mad at the members, it's their company that needs to be questioned.

even though i agree that was wrong too but i don’t think today’s generation can really be blamed for not raising their voice against it because they were kids when they did debut, but yeah it is hypocritical if we compare these situations

so by that logic we should wait for these groups to make music and if it’s good we can neglect that they’re kids, and if it’s not we can play the “they are kids card”anyways
No I’m not supporting anything that’s what I’m trying to say you can separate the “enjoyment” of the song with their ages. I like NewJeans’ songs, but I wouldn’t want them to debut this young. Whaddya want me to do, nothing wrong with liking the music

and tbh I think there’s very few people in the kpop fandom who are actually 110% against minors debuting bc
1. It’s almost impossible to Stan or listen to a group (esp the ones trending nowadays) that doesn’t have any minors in it, or did at debut. 2. The fact that such groups with minors are popular automatically gives people the comfort that maybe it’s okay to like them bc everyone else is.
Supporting minors in kpop isn’t so black and white bc you’ll find 9/10 kpop Stans are hypocrites when it comes to the subject and there’s nothing they can really do unless a massive boycott against groups with minors but that’s next near impossible, and the chances of it actually financially affecting Big3&HYBE is as low as them changing the problem

with the loona’s boycott actually working i think kpop stans need to take inspiration from it
