Hello! For this thread, I wanted to debunk a common misconception that Lee Know is "cold", "mean", or "rude". There have been Stays believing those things about him ever since the group debuted, possibly even before then. Thankfully I haven't seen anyone make such comments since before Covid, but some "Stays" back then used to "jokingly" call him names like "Minh*e", "Meanho" and "Meanh*e". Even though he is a bit of a tsundere, he still has feelings too, and I highly suspect he did not enjoy receiving such comments from fans. It's one thing if someone else in Stray Kids jokingly calls him mean and he roasts them right back, but it's much different if fans say stuff like that to or about him.
This example may be me reading too much into things, and it probably is, but Lee Know was on a solo V-Live at the end of 2020. Near the end of the livestream, he got a comment saying: "You are mean." It is hard to tell if the comment was being serious or joking with him, as it seemingly came out of nowhere and tone can be hard to read over text. Lee Know ended the livestream half of a minute later, and started saying goodbye to Stays. When people asked if he was leaving because of the comment, he denied it, saying that it may seem abrupt, but it wasn't, and he had other things to do and he was planning on ending the livestream then all along. This may be a situation where we never know the truth. On one hand, many Stays point out that he looked visibly hurt by that comment. On the other hand, many Stays also rightfully point out that Lee Know has always ended his livestreams abruptly, and has done so both before and after that incident multiple times. I'll include the short clip so you can decide for yourself. I have timestamped it and hopefully it starts at the right time, but if not, you can skip to 31:20.
While they have become less prevalent in recent years, sometimes even Stays are surprised at how nice he is. Recently, on the FANS app, one translated interaction between Lee Know and a Stay went as follows:
Stay: Lee lee know why are you such a sweetheart
Lee Know: You [only] just realized? Hahahahaha
In my opinion though, Lee Know seems like such a genuinely kind person, and so I wanted to make a thread debunking those rumors and highlighting moments where he has been nice to others. I can kind of see where new Stays are coming from, as he is one of the more sassy/savage members to the other Stray Kids members, and he does tend to have a dark, direct and dry sense of humor, paired with a deadpan expression. However, if you pay attention and learn more about him, he is quite a kind person beneath all of the jokes and sassiness. He is good at comforting people and giving them realistic advice:
Another example of him comforting fans is on another one of his solo V-Lives, with this one taking place during the middle of 2022. I'll provide a transcript of what was said below, as well as attach a video of the entire livestream. Like with the previous livestream clip, this one should hopefully be timestamped to start at the correct time, but if it does not work for whatever reason, feel free to skip to the 35:00 mark.
Stay: Lee Know, I'm born in 1998 too, but I haven't graduated [college] yet and I'm still unemployed. I feel like I'm the only one who is lagging behind. Have you ever been in a slump? How do you overcome it?
Lee Know: You're the same age as me. But among my friends and acquaintances, even though we're the same age, most of them haven't settled down yet. There are a lot of people like that. They can't help it. They can't help it.
Don't think about graduating late and getting a job late as something sad. Just think that you have a responsibility to attend school and the reason why you're getting a job late is because you need more preparatory time. It's not that you're lagging behind. "There's no need to rush, my pace. Don't compare yourself with others. It's okay to run slower." My Pace isn't a song that came out for no reason everyone. When you feel like you're falling behind, saying: "I hope you listen to our songs and look for a peace of mind" is ridiculous. To give you realistic advice, if you're lagging behind, just take your time. Everyone doesn't have to go for the same destination. That's just what I think.
Slump is my enemy! When I have a slump, I just let it slide and pretend that it isn't there. When you're in a slump, you don't want to do anything, and lose your motivation, right? But you have things to do. And there are things you can quit. But for me, until now, I didn't have a choice to just quit. At least for me. So if I'm in a slump, I just think that it is there, and tell it to "go away now". Fighting!
Lee Know is also good at encouraging and supporting Stays who try to dance. He used to go on V-Live and teach fans how to do various dances from their songs, including God's Menu. Whenever a Stay commented that they were struggling to grasp a certain move, he would be patient with them and repeat the move and/or do it more slowly. Here are some comments he made to Stays during one such livestream:
Lee Know is also very outspoken about repeatedly asking Stays to not go on a diet or feel like they have to or should lose weight, unless it is their choice and they want to. Whenever fans ask him if they should go on a diet or not, he is always quick to tell them that they don't have to.
On a similar food related note, there is also this moment as well. There was a pop-up Stray Kids/SKZOO themed cafe, and Lee Know showed up in person for one of those days. Without being asked to, he paid for drinks for all of the Stays that were there when he was. He also played Rock, Paper, Scissors with them, and took pictures of them, since they were taking pictures of him.
Lee Know has always had a good heart, even as a child. As many Stays know, Lee Know has three cats: Soonie, Doongie and Dori. The eldest cat, Soonie, he adopted while he was in middle school. He volunteered at a shelter on the weekends and Soonie was sick. He adopted her, took her to the vet, and has been taking care of her ever since. Doongie came from one of his friends. The friend had a cat, who gave birth to a litter of kittens, and he got to keep Doongie. Dori came from an abandoned cat center.
Additionally, Lee Know has also sponsored a child through UNICEF ever since he was in middle school. The child's name is Anas, and he lives in Ghana. They became penpals, and the two of them write letters to each other. Lee Know has spoken about how he would love to invite Anas to one of Stray Kid's concerts one day.
To this very day, Lee Know has not stopped taking care of cats in need. He donates money to cat shelters, cooks food from scratch for his cats (as seen in The kNOw Way Episode 00, which I have previously posted about on here), and even carries around extra cat treats wherever he goes, and gives them to stray cats.
In addition to cats, he also takes care of people who need help, donating money to hospitals as well.
Not only did he donate money to the hospital, he later volunteered there, along with Chan and Jeongin. The three of them taught lessons to elementary aged students in the subjects of Art, English, and Letter Writing, using the lyrics from Stray Kid's song "Youtiful". The hospital school is for children with serious illnesses that require them to be at the hospital for a long time, or that require the children to constantly be monitored for their health and safety. The school is offered so the children can feel more like normal children, as well as not fall behind in their education.
There are no doubt many more examples of Lee Know being kind, but this thread is long enough as is by now, and I think I have made my point by now. He also does not brag about the kind things he does, or do it to increase his fame, but moreso just to be a good person. If anything, if you ask most Stays to describe Lee Know, they would use words such as "bunny", "cat", "cute", "dancer", "playful", "mischievous", "sassy" and so on, with very few describing him as generous within the first few adjectives. Also, these are just examples that he has told fans. Based on what Jeongin said and the quote from Lee Know below, I highly suspect he has done even more kind things than the ones made public, fans just don't know about them yet.
Before I end this thread, I do need to put the obvious disclaimer that I do not know Lee Know, any of the Stray Kids members, or any K-Pop idol in person. There have also been a lot of idols that have later been revealed to be bad people who have done horrible things, and fans had no clue until the news came out. I cannot definitively prove without a shadow of a doubt that he is a perfect person with no flaws. Idols sometimes exaggerate or even outright fake their personalities for the camera, and hide who they really are. Yet, based on the sheer amount of evidence of him being kind to cats, fans and strangers both on and off camera, I am hoping he genuinely is a good person. At the very least, I am positive that he is more than just being reduced to "Meanho". While I am annoyed those jokes ever existed in the first place, I am glad they have stopped, and I hope this thread helps more users here get to know just how kind he can be. Have a great day/night!
