“Actor Kim Soohyun has been cleared of allegations of violating the Child Welfare Act. The claims made by the family of the late Kim Saeron about sexual abuse of a child have been concluded to be “something that never happened.”

Kim Soohyun has cleared his legal risks. The claim that he dated a minor had already been found to be false, and the additional allegations of sexually exploiting a minor and related acts have also been closed with a decision of no charges.

The Seongdong Police Station recently decided not to forward the cases against Kim Soohyun for alleged violations of the Child Welfare Act and false accusation. The police focused their investigation on whether he dated the late Kim Saeron while she was under 18 and whether there was any sexual abuse. They concluded that all allegations claiming they dated when she was a minor were false.

The problem was that the recording was fake. Kim Saeron’s voice had been manipulated using AI. The Forensic Science Division of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office found evidence of manipulation, saying, “The voice frequency ranges of a man and a woman are different.”

The so-called New Jersey acquaintance who appeared in the recording also remains unidentified. It cannot be confirmed whether the person actually lives in New Jersey or whether they ever met Kim Saeron. The police have left the person listed as unidentified. The possibility that the voice was also AI-generated cannot be ruled out.

Even so, Kim Seui insisted that the recording was “real,” saying he had completed an on-site investigation in New Jersey. The family also filed their complaint based on that recording. Following the claims that Kim Soohyun dated a minor, they also accused him of child sexual exploitation.

Meanwhile, Kim Seui was indicted and detained on June 23 on charges of spreading false information about Kim Soohyun. He is currently being held at the Seoul Detention Center. His first trial will be held in August.”

If there is no evidence or the evidence itself turns out as fake, I doubt the police can do anything.

I don't want to comment on the specifics of this case, because I don't know enough about it, but wanted to highlight this sentence in particular. It's scary how slow the legislation system is, everywhere around the world, that it can't keep pace with technology changes and therefore allows new technology to cause devastating harm in the interim.

Same here, I don't know enough to comment and I don't take any side, because in the Korean entertainment industry, nothing is ever quite what it seems. People's careers are often ruined by false accusations, or minor issues are blown out of proportion.
I'm a big AI anti, it's scary that you can ruin someone's life with a fake voice or video recording. Not talking about this exact case, but in general.
I try to believe AI was created for the good, but well, it seems like we can't keep up with the thing we created.
