i grew up not speaking the language, not even dialect except when very young. i think i could communicate with my grandma until i started schooling n spoke almost exclusively english n not dialect/mandarin.

so i might not be the best to ask. read the wikipedia article instead; i learned sthg new abt my dialect from wikipedia. the rest of chinese culture im woefully unfamiliar with, only smattering of wat iv read from newspapers, a few articles n online stuff.

tldr: chinese is not a religion. i read a comics version of journey to the west, abt tripitaka. i think he introduced buddhism to chinese. not sure when taoism n i-ching began tho.see dont ask me if chinese is a religion. my answer will shock u!!!

im not offended Chae. im diaspora/overseas born, so its complicated. u werent mean abt it, as far as i see it. just maybe pass on any opportunities to make stereotypical/easily misunderstood jokes abt different cultures in future.
