The Rurouni anime sucks lol, just watch the movies they skip the uninteresting parts mostly and stick to what makes it great
The first movie is more setup, although there's still some great action. The 2nd and 3rd are amazing

But actually the animated Rurouni Kenshin OVAs are some of the best ever- they have a completely different vibe from the anime- more mature definitely and just great. Especially the OVA Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal

Oh i guess similar as with Black Lagoon, anime was just water down version of manga, but OVA was spot on
