The first season is very Monster of the Week, a lot of good standalone episodes especially the first episode. But "Xena" doesn't really pick up until the episode "Callisto".
Callisto is the best character on Xena.

The best episodes imo are the ones that show the flashback of Xena's evil past. Evil Xena's best flashback episodes imo are: The Debt Part 1 & 2 (Season 3), Destiny (Season 2, it was Caesar who set Xena off to being Evil) and Adventure In The Sin Trade 1 &2 from Season 4.

Lucy Lawless (Xena) and Renee O'Connor (Gabrielle) have the best chemistry of all six seasons of a show I've ever seen.
Season 3 is considered the best full season of Xena. Deals with very dark topics and metaphors.
