Chapter 16
Daisy was just drifting back off to sleep on the couch when the doorbell rang. With a stretch and a yawn, she got up to answer the door.
“Luke,” she said enthusiastically when she saw her love interest standing there. “I wasn’t expecting you so soon.”
“Well, what can I say?” Luke returned, letting himself in. “A friend in need is a friend indeed. How are you holding up?”
Daisy sighed. “Lauren was my best friend since high school. How do you THINK I’m holding up? What’s even going to become of me?”
“Aw, Dais… come here.” Luke wrapped his arms around her waist and led her to the couch to sit down. Then, he gave her a tight hug that really warmed her heart.
“You give the best hugs.”
“I’ve had practice,” Luke said. “Do you want me to kiss you?”
Daisy gave him her silent permission, and Luke leaned in and placed a kiss on her lips that was sweet like honey. It was so irresistible to Daisy that this kiss turned into a make-out session, which then turned into lovemaking.
Jesse pulled up to the house at seven in the morning, ready to take Daisy so they could elope to Vegas. If that wasn’t going to get her back into his life, what else would? Besides, he knew he could do way better than that lanky loser she was dating now. What was his name again? Not that he gave two fucks, anyway.
Daisy was the only one who heard the doorbell ring, as Luke was out like a light after that amazing sex they’d had.
“Jesse, go away!” Daisy stage-whispered
“Not until I get you back,” Jesse protested, literally putting his foot down. “Besides, I come in peace… and with a nice trip to Vegas. You loved going on trips!”
Daisy narrowed her eyes. “Yes, when we were still together.”
“Ahem!”
It was Luke who had cleared his throat. When Daisy turned to look at him, he was giving Jesse the evil eye.
“And just how did you find this house, jackass?” he asked the intruder.
“Me, a jackass?!” Jesse retorted. “You’re the one who stole my girl, Mr. Twig!”
“He has a name!” Daisy protested.
“Oh, right… Larry.”
“It’s Luke,” Luke corrected him. “And I don’t take kindly to people calling me names.”
“Well, I don’t take kindly to people stealing my girl! We were supposed to be married in two months, and you crushed those hopes and dreams, Larry!”
Luke was fuming now. “It’s Luke! LUKE!”
“Larry!”
“Luke!”
“Larry!”
“How would you like it if I called you a different name… Joey?!”
“Y’all, please stop!” Daisy yelled. “You’re going to wake the kids up!”
“Stay out of this!” Jesse hissed at Daisy. “I’m trying to get Mr. Twig to give you back to me!”
Daisy folded her arms. “Yeah, well, it’s clearly not working!”
“Okay, then maybe this will,” Jesse said. He leaned in, closed his eyes, and put a kiss on her lips, hopefully one passionate enough to win her over again.
Luke could feel his heart breaking into a million pieces when he saw the two of them making out.
“Daisy, what the fuck?!” Luke shouted. “I thought we had something!”
Luke watched as Jesse pulled away from Daisy and asked her if she’d take him back now that they’d just made out.
“You know what, fine!” Luke screamed. “You can go ahead and marry that piece of shit ex of yours.”
“But what about—”
“Friday’s date is off. Good-fucking-bye!”
With that, he stormed out the door, hopped into his car, and pulled off.
“Well, now that he’s out of the way… shall we?”
“That kiss made me remember what a gentleman you were before the twins,” Daisy admitted. “Let’s get the kids first, though.”
When he got home, Luke found Calum and Savannah making out on the couch. Daisy and Jesse’s kiss was still fresh in his mind, so he was really disgusted by this.
“Can you get a fucking hotel room?!” he spat.
“Oh, hey!” Calum greeted him when he saw that he’d returned. “How’s Daisy?”
“Gone,” Luke said in a huff as he plopped down on the couch next to Savannah. “She got back with her asshat ex!”
“Oh, no!” Savannah interjected. “What happened?”
“Well, he came over to try and win her back so they could get married, and then she fucking KISSED him! I guess he’s succeeded, then!”
“Lucas, why did you let her go like that?” Calum asked. “You know that’s not how we deal with jealous exes!”
“He wasn’t just jealous, Hood,” Luke growled. “You should’ve seen the look in both of their eyes just after they pulled away. He’s still in love with her, and I’m pretty sure the feeling is mutual!”
Luke sighed. “I guess I’ll have to call my own ex and see if she wants me back.”
“But Arzaylea is a monster!” Savannah protested. “We were all happy because you finally broke up, and now you want to get back together?! Don’t do it, Luke!”
“I’m only doing this to make Daisy jealous,” Luke said as he tapped Arzaylea’s digits into the keypad.
Arzaylea answered after the second ring.
“Hey, it’s Luke Hemmings,” he addressed himself. “Look, I wanted to know if youi wanted me back.”
“Luke?!” Arzaylea exclaimed. “Oh, I thought you’d NEVER call me! I don’t think we should ever have broken up. You belong with me, not that skank you were seeing!”
Luke laughed. “I don’t think ‘skank’ is quite the right word, but I agree. So, you do want to reunite?”
“Yes! Oh, my God, you just made my day!”
“Now, don’t get too excited. This is primarily to make Daisy jealous.”
“That’s okay. It’ll still be worth it. When shall we start dating again?”
“I had invited her over for a Lindsay Lohan movie marathon, but now that she’s out, how would you like to join me instead?”
“I’m so for that idea! What day?”
“We can do it tonight, if you want.”
“Okay! I can come around five. Do you still live in Torrance?”
“Yes, I do. I’ll see you tonight, then!”
“Later, and thanks again for making my day!”
“Wait a minute,” Savannah said. “That was supposed to be your next date with Daisy!”
“Yeah, I remember you being quite chuffed about it, too,” Calum added.
“This is all to make Daisy jealous, remember?” Luke reminded them with a devilish grin. “Just go with it!”
