yea studying sounds more like looking up things about it than it being a beliefWait, is he for real a flat-earther? Or does he just research stuff about flat earth online so that he can get a good laugh?
Okay but now I'm curious about the parts of the theory that appeal to youOk in all seriousness, the theory is kinda appealing
I don't believe it whatsoever but there are some strong points is all I'm gonna say
For starters, there are a lot of stories on how airplanes don't fly over the North Pole and actually let planes fly around it. It does not make any sense. I study Aviation and I haven't had a single reason to justify why they would do that.Okay but now I'm curious about the parts of the theory that appeal to you
Honestly, I don't have any answers for any of those without looking them up lol.For starters, there are a lot of stories on how airplanes don't fly over the North Pole and actually let planes fly around it. Also, you are not allowed on the continent without supervision and only a small part is accessable.
It is said that the UN flag is the earth as flat earthers see it. Many could say that they wanted to include the whole world but why would you center the NP? Wouldn't it make sense to take the map of the world as we know it?
Also a lot of flat earthers don't believe NASA, who provides the images of the world that we know, because of the moon landing conspiracy.
Yea there is some flight-activity above the North Pole but only the edges of the continent. It does not make sense cuz after all, changing your route is fuel-absorbing. I could only think of the issue with boundaries (Freedoms of the Air) but the North Pole doesn't belong to anyone so it's something that makes the theory believable. This is the only part of the theory that I think really makes senseHonestly, I don't have any answers for any of those without looking them up lol.
BUT ANYWAYSo I looked up the North Pole thing. And planes do fly over the North Pole, just not often. And really, many times there isn't a reason to fly directly over the North Pole. Obviously you're waaaay more informed than me if you study aviation lol, but from my understanding, the routes that you would need to take to get from one place to another would be longer if you traveled over the north pole in many cases, so there's no point anyway. And since flight paths also attempt to take into account winds in order to minimize fuel costs, that would also affect where they travel.
Plus, you can also use flight paths and flight times to show that the flat polar map that they use is wrong. On the flat earth map, you'll notice that the southern hemisphere is really stretched out. Any flight between, say, Cape Town and Sydney across the Indian Ocean, would take significantly longer using the flat earth map than it does in real life (not related to flights over the poles but still thought I'd share lol).
With the UN flag, maybe they just wanted a circle instead of a rectangle because it would look better, so they went with that one. I think flat earthers latched onto that image after the UN did, but idk. But really, the polar view is just one of many different ways of displaying the world map. Why do we center the cartesian map at the intersection of the equator and prime meridian at the center? Why wouldn't we center it somewhere else and maybe have the prime meridian at the edge of the map? It's just a choice of how to display our planet.
As for the whole distrusting NASA thing, I'm pretty sure a lot of that (most of the time, not all the time) stems from a general distrusting of authority. As far as I know, a lot of the distrust comes from the idea that all of the pictures of Earth are composite images, because the satellites that take them are too close to get the entire Earth in one shot. BUT there are full pictures of the globe earth from the moon, and those aren't composite. Then again, if the flat-earthers think the moon landing is a hoax, they probably think those pictures are too. But there are plenty of videos online that show how the moon landing wasn't a hoax, using actual science.
With Antarctica, there are people who have traveled to the south pole. Yes, there are limitations on where you can go, but that's because we've put things in place to protect the continent from being ravaged by humans one way or another. And I know some flat-earthers will say that people have never been to the south pole and it's a hoax, but that basically once again comes down to distrusting authority I think.
And I know you said you don't believe it and never will, so I'm not coming at you lol. I just got interested in looking everything up to see what I could find, and I figured I would share my understandings of all of it.
I mean, if the guy is talented and would make the group better, then it doesn't really matter to me if he actually does believe in a flat earth.
Minuteman already answered to some of these, but couldn't it also be something to do with pollution and hurting the continent that's already in danger? I don't know exactly how planes work but it'd sound plausible, maybe? I got curious. For starters, there are a lot of stories on how airplanes don't fly over the North Pole and actually let planes fly around it. It does not make any sense. But the thing is, they have done it way before pollution was a topicMinuteman already answered to some of these, but couldn't it also be something to do with pollution and hurting the continent that's already in danger? But yeah, doesn't really matter whether the trainee believes in such stuff or not if he's good. Doesn't really affect his ability to perform.
