Could be anything from cars to buildings. Low cloud would also play a part, so it’s also weather related.

if you're in the usa, even if you're a good distance from the fires currently happening, it can still affect the air quality significantly and be dangerous for people with asthma and such. you should be safe if you're not spending hours upon hours outdoors breathing it in

from my understanding, you're most at risk if you have any respiratory conditions, but i think in general most people will be alright !! it's just wise to be cautious and to limit your exposure. i'm no expert, of course. please do try not to worry i'm sorry if my post sounded overly concerning. it wasn't my intention i truly think you're going to be just fine
