so those of you who have watched the marvellous show Word of Honor based on a danmei Faraway Wanderers might have just like fallen in love with Zhang Zhehan.

the man had it all - a pretty face, a star actor, a singing career on the side, just to be ruined by his own actions.

you may ask what had he done? well, he went to Japan and visited Yasukuni Shrine.

Yasukuni Shrine (靖国神社 or 靖國神社, Yasukuni Jinja, lit. Peaceful Country) is a Shinto shrine located in Chiyoda, Tokyo. It was founded by Emperor Meiji in June 1869 and commemorates those who died in service of Japan from the Boshin War of 1868–1869 through the First Indochina War of 1946–1954.[1] The shrine's purpose has been expanded over the years to include those who died in the wars involving Japan spanning from the entire Meiji and Taishō periods, and the earlier part of the Shōwa period.[2]

The shrine lists the names, origins, birthdates, and places of death of 2,466,532 men, women, children, and various pet animals. Among those are 1,068 convicted war criminals*, 14 of whom are A-Class (convicted of having been involved in the planning, preparation, initiation, or waging of the war). This has led to many controversies surrounding the shrine.

* those criminals were also behind Japanese attack on China.

China does NOT take those actions lightly. Stupidity is not tolerated, neither is ignorance towards one´s past. He was dropped by all companies, he is being boycotted by China Association Performing Arts. His project with Wang Yibo was dropped and he has become a persona non grata over the night.

Suddenly words like "Nazi" "Pro-Japan" and whatever else have emerged. Apparently he supports Japan, his father´s business name is too Japanese and he is friends with abuses.

He had of course issued an apology letter, but it wasn´t taken warmly and all his social media accounts had been deleted.

it is absolutely insane how quickly he sank over his dumbass mistake.

And rumours say they're trying to attack JunJun next. All because they shot to fame "overnight" and took resources and sponsorship away from their actors smh. Whatever. I'm just over C-ent for now. Maybe I'll watch a show again some day but it won't be for a long time.

I hope he finds something to do that he's passionate about.

he was my 2nd fav cast member of shl (after zhou ye, who I started stanning better days era) but I can't say I have much sympathy for him, and likely won't continue supporting him as someone who grew up listening to second hand accounts of the war from family members
the 2017 apa hotel boycotts were pretty big news and to visit (or not visit) the shrine is in itself a huge political statement for japanese politicians which make rounds in the news each time it happens (it's common knowledge, there is literally no way for him not to know that it is a symbol of japan's lack of acknowledgement that some of the events even happened, as well as the resulting trauma), and the fact that he continually was associated with people and imagery who stood for the lack of remorse of ww2 removes the benefit of doubt for me
it would be hypocritical for people to condemn the japanese for visiting what is essentially a glorification and denial of horrific war crimes only to let a chinese public figure go
I really hate the narrative that this is "just a fanwar gone wrong" even if I have no doubt that people were purposely looking into his black material because of how much it trivializes the main reason why he's getting, pretty rightfully imo, deplatformed; had he not visited yasukuni he probably could've survived the same way zhao wei was eventually able to come back
for me, the nature of the pictures outweighs the intent in posting them the same way that I would easily drop any western celeb whose continuous alignment with pro-nazi imagery got leaked by say a salty ex label, the same way this whole debacle seems to have really gathered momentum now that a lot of the leakers were former fans of his
the chats show that he in the very least knew that this would have been a career killer for any person in china, that was totally on him
that being said, some of the other issues, like him celebrating october 1 in japan, or the mermaid pic were blown out of proportion
yes, a few of those other pictures showed that he was an asshole, and a crass one at that too, but not worth deplatforming about; I have no idea about the whole fiancee debacle because I frankly don't care about it
td;lr he had it coming with the shrine pics, everything else is blown out of proportion imo, but his fans doing everything to defend him are disgusting
