So, in my country, we don't have Halloween.
But more and more people are celebrating it, because it's trendy to copy "American stuff" and well, it's much more of a fun than our own holidays during that season.

All Saints’ Day (All Hallows’ Day, Solemnity of All Saints) is celebrated on the 1st of November in Hungary.
It should not be confused with All Souls’ Day, celebrated on the next day, 2nd November.

"According to the tradition, those who have ploughed the soil or sowed seeds attacked the dead. Folklore says the dead were at a mass in the local church, and when the bell rang, they stood up and went home.
Many Hungarians put one more plate on the table with a slice of bread, salt and a glass of water so that they could feed the ones coming home. Székely people baked a loaf of bread and called it bread of the dead. Székelys of Bukovina even took food to their graves and gave the rest to the poor."

Now, Hungarians go to the cemetery; repair the graves of their loved ones, put fresh flowers (mainly Chrysanthemums) and wreaths on them, and light candles to remember their loved ones. It's kind of a sad holiday, but cemeteries are beautiful at night during that time and it indicates that we don't forget our roots.

Do you have something like this in your country? :dubuthink:

I know it's background with the Celts, but Hungarian (and I assume many Europeans) people see it in American TV shows, etc., so they think it comes from the US.
That's why I put it as “American stuff”, please, don't kill mee. :sanapray:

I've heard of All Saints Day, that's mainly cause I went to a Catholic high school and it was a topic of discussion this time of year.
I didn't know you went to a Catholic school, I guess there is always something new to learn. :)

Non religious people are also doing it here, because that's basically how we remember for the loved ones.
And yeah, 2nd is also work/school days here, which is so bad, whyyy?
I loved that movie so much, I can understand why she was that angry. :D

We have All saints day as well. I kinda feel bad that commercial Halloween has taken over it a bit. More ppl up to partying than visiting graveyards to pay their respects.
