If students perform bad at school, whose mistake is it? (1 Viewer)

A lot of people keep saying it is the teacher´s fault because of bad instructing, explaining, presenting, but there are also many that say students should study at home more. But should children/students really study or is it upon school to teach them what they need?

And generally speaking, why should they? Most people when they go back from work, they can relax but not students.
So what can schools make to prevent that?

It's a give and take from both sides. Some teachers don't explain things well, some students stop trying and don't seek help anymore.

I feel like that´s the problem. not enough people are asking the question WHY are students not taking notes, why are they not paying attention, why are they interacting.
because they are bored? what can be done to make them interested?

what should teachers do to motivate them?

I'm going through to be a teach and have had experiences with elementry aged special needs students and we found a reward system worked to motivate students. We had one student who struggled to regulate his behaviour so throughout the day he would collect puzzle pieces. At the end of the day he would go to solve it and when he did he got a prize like candy or a toy or some cool school supplies. I also worked in a different class and we played math games with the students. One was a math bingo and whoever won got a prize. If you won twice, you would choose another student to give your prize to.

I feel like that´s the problem. not enough people are asking the question WHY are students not taking notes, why are they not paying attention, why are they interacting.
because they are bored? what can be done to make them interested?

I feel like students are often overworked, causing sleep depravation or burnout. so they loose motivation and just stop caring. this can be reduced by giving less homework and assignments, and giving more time to rewind. if you overwork a person without giving them food, they'll chew off their own arm

agh rewards work well with youngsters. that puzzle thing sounds amazing especially if you teach all of their classes because throughout a day you can collect something but not twice a week. that is nice. maybe a detective game where a prize would be a clue but wow, man,that´s some planning :D

true, though here it is forbidden to give students mandatory homework! so better times are to come!

Well it can be a number factors,
Bad teachers as well as bad parents or bad student study ethic or underlining disabilities that haven't been found that make it difficult to perform in school.
It's a case by case to be honest... Its never been a cut and dry thing in my eyes.

I've experienced some terrible teachers some great ones. But my personal study ethic was really what shifted whether I did bad or good when I use to study but other people aren't necessarily the same.
With younger children (primary school/middle school) it's more how parents tackle studing to begin which helps them later on to study independently like a routine, I've seen parents not bother and just expect their child to do well without helping them when sometimes they clearly need it. It also doesnt help if the teacher isn't teaching the material properly.

We did do a scavenger hunt one time around Easter. I was super fun to plan and worked really well with the 9 and 10-year-olds. This is the struggle though, when students enter high school and college these activities become less and less. The interest in learning is lost because it's made so robotic and not fun.

If in one class of school many students are failing i would question the teacher

but will blaming the system help? you can´t really change something that is done by the government.

In some cases, it's possible as child are different, some children have that inate drive and ambition that needs to be nurtured just a little to make their potential blossom , but it's not always going to be the case, home life for some can be difficult to combat in some cases, where they may have other responsibilities that dampen that ethic, a good teacher can only do so much and you can't expect a good teacher to go above and beyond for each child they teach as they have lives and such, they can only do so much especially in the confinements of a school day.

I do think a good balance is needed (but not always necessary) , its what I've tried to do with my siblings growing up (My mother never bothered with our school learning. She only bragged when we did well, alongside other difficult home life issues) and now with my own son I help as much as I can so I work alongside his teachers given material. I know how difficult it can be without extra support (or support in general).

I honestly think that it's the students since teachers work so hard to teach their students what they need to know and the students just need to pay attention and apply it. Teachers are so underrated and deserve so much more. While some students are just fine, others can improve and try harder in the classroom setting.

Sad but true. Iife is wonderfully unfair. I spend alot of time wondering if the nursery and pre school kids I use to teach are doing well, (some of the oldest would be ending secondary in a year or two) can be a daunting thought not knowing.
