How Effective is Promoting a comeback? (1 Viewer)

Now I know that comeback promotions have there purpose and I think that they are needed but how much do you think a already popular group will suffer without them? Im talking about groups like BTS, EXO, BP, and Twice. Do these groups really need to do as much promotion? Do you think not doing any promotion at all would still render the same numbers both digital and physical as promoting it for two weeks to a month?


My thinking is that promotions are not really that necessary for groups on the level of BTS, EXO, BP and Twice. These promotions serve more as fan service then an expectation that they will help the song do better. What do you guys think?

While what you said is true mostly, the sky is never the limit for groups like that, there is potential to be even bigger even though the rate of gaining new fans is lower, we have to also remember, kpop as a whole is an important industry of revenue for south korea, the more kpop gets exported & gain more influence = more revenue for south korea as a whole.

Then there's GFriend who, after a week of winning music shows climbed to number 1 on Melon with TFTMN. Promotion is good, especially if you manage to snag a win on a public music show.

good point. I guess there is always some purpose, I do think though that the benefit lessens a bit as you climb the ladder of popularity. But as you pointed out they can still provide benefits to the highest of groups.

Although I will say, for BGs like BTS and EXO, I agree that you do have a point. Their fans will stream regardless and the public is pretty uninterested in BGs in general so they won't care about their win articles.

GG win articles on Naver, especially the public music show wins, have a more balanced ratio of genders and ages viewing the article unlike BG win articles, which are 90% viewed by 30 and below females.

Promotion plays a huge role for blackpink as they only comeback once a year, they need that support to refresh the public minds about them.

Even the most popular groups need promotions. One of my friends, only liked BTOB but saw EXO on music bank, and didn't even know who that was back then, now he really likes EXO~

Promotion gives you alot of exposure to your fans, it act like a fan service so even popular group need to attend award show, music show, variety show or whatever show since the fans wanna see their idol...
