I just.....
I don't even know. Really. What to say without sounding offensive or rude.
They seem to be a pretty average dance crew (I will be completely honest, I've seen a lot better) - but their singing is...well....last time I checked out anything they did that wasn't a dance cover, it was kind of. Well. Yeah.
I haven't seen much regarding the women in the group, but talking strictly of Eddie, he alone is not typically the type to make it in the industry.
I'm talking mainly about his outwardly flamboyant portrayals, habit of doing only "girl group dances" and feminine moves that are not simply moves that are genderless/anyone can do and accentuate themselves and the dance/song, but literally moves that are specifically catered to a woman's physique and typical style.
The prior mentioned, let me say first that I'm not someone that says boys can't do dances that are created for girls, and girls can do dances that are created for boys - however, overly exaggerated portrayals of hip thrusting and crotch grabbing looks just as ridiculous on girls as ass popping/twerking and dropping to the floor in a split looks to guys (at least in my personal opinion; please don't attack my opinion). These moves are exactly the moves that we have seen Eddie show (not just in his dance covers and general dancing, but also while on the Korean-based and broadcasted show "Under 19").
People tend to argue that Jo Kwon did it, and has been making the "sassy gay best friend" stereotype his "thing" and "acceptable" to general public in Kpop, so why can't anyone else do it too? The thing is, it's seen more as a joke (from most that I've heard regarding Jo Kwon and how he acts, and from what I've seen when people react to him) and less as who he is, or how he expresses himself naturally.
In addition to this, Eddie has openly admitted his sexuality.
People will also argue that Holland has the same sexuality, and has admitted it openly as well - he's in the industry, he's making music! Yes, yes he is, but how well is he actually doing? He's also Korean and knows the language - something that Eddie lacks in studying and speaking, as well as his ethnicity being Mexican; far from being Korean, East Asian, or Asian in general.
While it sucks to say "well his ethnicity, the way he dances and expresses himself, and his sexuality shouldn't be a factor here!" especially in this day and age, it unfortunately very much is and will ultimately be the reason they likely won't debut/gather the funds, or, if they do debut, will be the main reason (more than likely) they don't have as many fans outside of those trying to support someone that's different breaking into the Kpop mold, or someone of the LGBT+ community doing what they do in a society that's still unfortunately so negatively biased towards anyone of that community (similar to Holland).
It's unfortunate that they are so Hell-bent on being a Kpop (specifically) group, instead of trying to break into the Western pop atmosphere, or something of the similar type. I think if they'd just try less to be something they are not (save for, ethnically, the one girl in the group) and try less to break into a world that's already harsh on internationally different members in groups (as, at the very base of everything, it's Kpop - Korean pop - and a sub-genre that, although singing in Korean should be the only factor in making this music, is a culture that runs deeper than just "I sang in Korean, so this song is now Kpop, right?" whereas "Western Pop" can really be any English-sang song in the pop genre).
I hope, if they do get the funding, that they aren't hurt when it doesn't work out. Because unfortunately, I can't pretend to be optimistic with this one for them. They would hit a wall so hard, among many other things, trying to enter the industry and be a viable group in the entertainment scene of South Korea.
