when was the last time you visited home?

for me it was last year. in 22 years i only went back 4 times, but w the way things are right now i don't expect to go back any time soon

Well I consider the US home but last time I visited Russia was a few years ago, maybe 4-5 years. And also like you I don't expect to visit anytime soon because politics.

But if you’re talking about my mom’s country then 7 years

I went back to Ireland during Christmas last year and I will go back at the end of July

i hope you guys don't take this the wrong way because i'm genuinely only curious; where you guys born in your native country, or where you born in the country you currently reside in? i was 2 or 3 when we came to europe so i don't remember anything about life back there anyway, but my parents always raised me with the idea that belgium is my home-away-from-home and that my roots will always lie in my native country which is why i just call it "home". they didn't want to leave, but they had no choice and most of our family still lives there, so i guess that explains it

I was born in Russia, I moved to the US when I was half a year old. We also grew up speaking Russian at home and have family back in Russia so we used to visit it often, and we’re exposed a lot to Russian culture. I have no memories of Russia as a little kid though obviously so that’s why I consider the US my home.

i see! i hope it didn't sound like i was questioning you or anything, i was just curious how you guys experience the whole ethnicity vs nationality thing because i know some people struggle with their identity and feel like a "foreigner" or "imposter" in both countries/cultures

I always get confused between the ethnicity and nationality thing tbh
I don’t feel like a foreigner in the US luckily but I do to an extent in Russia, not as much as most people would but still a little bit yeah.
