I learnt shorthand at uni, and when you write ‘surprise’ in shorthand you omit the first ‘r’. When our tutor was handing back our translations, the amount of times we wrote ‘suprise’ sent her bonkers. She thought it was hilarious though that eleven journalism students partially lost the ability to spell due to needing to omit some consonants when writing in shorthand
