We hired an Ukrainian guy at work (1 Viewer)

So at my work 2 foreigners got hired. One of them got hired at the checkout department where I work too and he is an (I believe 17 y/o?) Ukrainian guy. It's for the first time at our branch that we hired foreigners. It's pretty unusual in our city. Idk how it is at other branches in cities like Amsterdam. But I really love it that we give them that opportunity. I don't really know what his story is. But I believe he fled away from Ukraine. He is a really sweet and humble guy and he does anything we ask from him. His English is pretty decent, but sometimes I don't understand him cuz of his accent haha. And my English when it comes to speaking isn't the best either, so sometimes it's pretty awkward for an introvert like me. But his English is decent enough to be able to communicate with each other, unlike many other foreign customers that come here

He is also going to school here when the semester starts in September I believe. I'm so happy for him, hopefully he'll do great and I wish him the best of luck.
Unfortunately at work he already got an official warning from the higher ups, cuz he sold alcohol to a minor and didn't ask for their ID. But it was like his 1st or 2nd day. So of course my boss and another department manager decided to not give him that warning. That would be really cruel.. And even though selling a minor alcohol isn't allowed, it isn't the end of the world. Everyone makes mistakes.
Again, I wish him the best of luck. It's not easy to suddenly have to live in a foreign country with another culture etc. But luckily we speak English pretty well.

I guess it's good all he got was a warning but damn. Was the minor buying alcohol a sting or how'd they catch that?

Yeah we didn't even give him the official one in the end, that's just cruel. But we gave him an explanation to be more cautious next time.
If you mean by sting like a test then yes. We regularly get tested if we ask ID or not. Sometimes from within our branch, but sometimes the township does it, and if we fail that one, that's a problem.
