Shedding tears: 8/10
Highly recommend for metalheads, the intro is very nice and I really like the transition to the screams. The beat changes could get annoying for some but I actually kinda like them, and the instrumental is very good I would love to have it as my alarm lol

Seize approaching brand new era: 10/10
I really really like the intro for this and again GREAT transition to the screams, this might be my new favorite song lol. Absolutely love the pre chorus and the chorus too, instrumental is amazing as well 10/10

Yours: 8.5/10
This song is perfect for those who don't like the screams, it's a lovely ballad and their vocals are amazing! The song is very pretty and elegant.

Glad I had the opportunity to find more bops!

@Kaishua
For this review, I’ve chosen the three title tracks from Passcode’s latest studio album, Strive.

Spark Ignition – This is actually surprisingly good, despite the screams. And even when they’re screaming, it doesn’t drown out the rest of the music, which is nice. I give this a 9/10 because it reminds me of a Japanese female Fall Out Boy, and I used to stan them.

Majestic – Okay, the scream game is VERY strong with this one. It’s still good, and I can see why metalheads like Yachii might find it pleasing, but it’s not something I’d listen to every day. 7/10.

Stealth Haze – This is about the same level of loudness as Majestic, but it seems like it’s going all over the place, melody-wise. If I was more appreciative of this music genre, I might rate it higher, but this one gets a 5/10.

So unfortunately, Passcode’s music isn’t really my cup of tea, as it’s too loud and would stick out like a sore thumb amongst the rest of my library. I give them an A for effort, though.

Passcode is a Japanese group whose music is characterized by rock and electronic instrumentals, heavy vocal effects, and auto-tune, and screaming. Unfortunately, while I like rock, Passcode's music isn't really my taste, but I listened to Freely, Flavor of Blue, and the entire Strive album this time to choose 3 recent songs to review. Eventually, I decided to review "Yours", "Golden Fire", and "Anything New"

Yours - Yours is the only Passcode song I added to my playlist after I listened initially. It starts out with gentle piano, before some light drums join in, immediately followed by some vocals, with vocal effects, albeit much lighter than is typical in Passcode songs. Soon a gentle guitar joins in, and there's some violin too, as there's a break from the vocals. This is a change from the heavily electronic instrumentals of many Passcode songs, but to me it's a welcome change. I definitely prefer the sounds of real instruments, and the heavy electronic instrumentals of other Passcode songs may have contributed to them not being my taste overall. After this portion with the break from the vocals, singing begins again, this time without any vocal effects, and it sounds nice. The piano and violin sound really good as well. The section where the girls sing together, but don't quite harmonize, sounds really nice as well. This section is nicely transitioned out of with a piano solo before drums and auto-tuned vocals join in again, reminiscent of, but not echoing, the beginning of the song. Again, vocal effects and auto-tune aren't as heavy here as in most Passcode songs, so it doesn't really bother me here, when it otherwise does. This song has a variety of instrumentals. Electronic instrumentals join in at some point, but they're not overbearing. The song ends with some nice ad-libs accompanied by the piano, drums, violin, and guitar, finally finishing with a single piano note. Overall, a nice song.

Golden Fire - As Golden Fire starts, I'm already banging my head. I love the instrumental, the beginning is definitely the kind of music I like to listen to. Screams and electronic instrumentals soon join in. A problem I had with most Passcode songs I've heard is that the screams often come out of nowhere and seem out of place in the song. That isn't the case here. The instrumental goes hard from the beginning, and the screams in the beginning of the song go well. However, I don't like the fast (in tempo), vocals with heavy vocal effects and auto-tune, the main problem I have with Passcode songs. Then, there's an intense instrumental again, and the girls chant together, and I like the song again. As the chanting stops there's some intense, head banging instrumentals again, before vocals start. The vocals are high, but not extremely so, and end with a satisfying shout before some intense and very fast riffs start. I love the riffs. After there's some almost rap chanting, before vocals and intense guitar ending in a high note. Afterwards, suddenly the tempo becomes quicker, and then slower. Before the vocals cut away for more riffs, and then screams. Again these fit well. Then we had some more nice riffs before transitioning to some bright electronic instrumentals. I don't particularly like this time. Some more almost rapping and screaming continues with intense instrumentals. A section with soft vocals and piano follows, and although the switch is really sudden, with no transition, the section sounds nice. Another somewhat bright electronic section follows. While I don't like the song overall, I can say some part of the instrumental, especially the riffs, I really liked, and it really went hard. The vocals and the screams went well too, and I liked those as well. The bright parts ruined the tone of the sone for me tho.

Anything New - Anything New starts softly, with gentle vocals and piano and violin, before drums come in, and an electronic instrumental starts, but it only lasts for a few seconds. Soon a bright instrumental that screams "j-pop" kicks in, but as suddenly as it started, it ends, and the song becomes soft once again. There's some soft vocals with light piano, but that's fleeting too, as again there's some bright electronic instrumentals and vocals. After some guitar, there's stomping and the girls singing together, but not harmonizing, and it sounds nice and touching. During this time, the drums join in as well. As this segment ends, the electronic instrumental that screamed "j-pop" repeats again, except this time softer and with less instruments. The music crescendos, and soon there is a bright electronic instrumental louder than the vocals as the singing starts. Then the song grows gentler once again, with softer vocals accompanied by pangs of a guitar. Drums join in, and the guitar gets groovier, accompanied with soft vocals once again. Again there's more segments with the bright instrumental. I don't really like these parts. There's some screaming accented by the drums and other parts of the instrumental. Again there's more nice singing together, accompanied by the drums and stomping, although there’s really no transition to this segment. I do like the soft ending of the song. Though I didn’t like the song overall, there were some nice parts, and with the vocal effects not being as heavy as other Passcode songs, I liked the vocals too.

Overall, Passcode’s music isn’t for me, but some songs did have enjoyable parts.

@Tsukino
Anything New - I truly like the start of the song, it starts gently but then it slays hard! It reminds me of some songs featured in Clarity. The choir sound really smooth as well! And can we talk about Emily’s scream?! Overall the track is pretty good! I would rate it a 9/10

Spark Ignition - it sounded familiar! It is maybe like the One Step Beyond of Strive ;) To me it was like Bite the Bullet and One Step Beyond had a child. Overly quite good but can’t say I like it as much as Anything New. I would rate a 6.5/10

Golden Fire - The guitar at the start and the scream!!! I loved that combo ♥ I thought the whole track was solid. And they rap!!! I was surprised as I don’t remember them rapping before. I would rate it a 8/10
