This is the controversy antis are trying to foment against Wonyoung. They are saying Wonyoung is appropriating black culture because she nicknamed her current style of bangs as "tweety bangs". She's not even claiming to be the inventor of it. Those baby hair bangs have been trendy in Korea for a while. And baby hairs occur naturally in all races. Sometimes stylists will take inspiration from baby hair and make bangs to look like them.

As you can see from these videos, the process and styling between Black and Asian baby hair are completely different. The former focuses on styling the surrounding hair edges (hence the name), while the other is on making wispier bangs. This is stan Twitter using ignorance and racism to hate on an idol, once again

I have to say, that for once, I agree with you. What a pleasure ! Wonyoung needs to be left alone, truly and honestly. She's a nice young girl who is just having fun and doing what she wants. Stop turning everything into an issue, especially a teenager having a popular hairstyle and cutely nicknaming it aha I guess anybody who styles baby hairs into bangs is now racist, according to twitter

They look very similar, you can't deny that. In the video above with the baby hair perm, they look nothing like edges. But wonyoung's hairstyle is strikingly similar is all. Me personally, as a black person it does make me a little bit uncomfortable and I wish she could either issue a statement, or just call it what it is. (If she hasn't already). Not to mention we had the same issue with sticky bangs. Edges are a cultural thing in black culture. I find it weird non black people are making similar hairstyles and rebranding them. But this happens in a lot of cultures as well.

In the performance video of her bangs, they look more like edges, but in the selfie posted above in her red outfit, they simply look like brushed out baby hairs. I think if she were to style them in place of make patterns like black people, there would be bigger issue. But oh well, her intentions seem innocent and it's up to black people to decide on it

While it wasn't intentional it can still be considered problematic. Ignorance isn't a good look. But I do wonder why they styled them differently for the show vs the pictures...

You have to realize that there’s 1+ billion East Asian people in the world, with thousands of different cultures. Some even have braids as part of their culture. Just because there might be some similarities by chance its nothing to get upset by.

But why are people making a big deal about baby hair bangs when it occurs naturally in East Asian people. Yet nobody bats an eye when they make their hair blonde or curly.

Edge styling is more intricate. East Asian females doing simple decoration on their bangs are not the same.
