Really love the instrumental but the lines itself paired with the instrumental kind of sounds off to me and idk why. It may be like Pink Venom and just take a few more listens

It’s pretty good - really like that they’ve gone for such a different vibe. My hot take is I prefer Pink Venom, and the song lacked a part with more oomph, but let’s let the dust settle on it first. Really hope the album will have a big B side like Pretty Savage.

i love the intro but that's it.
i don't hate it (which seems rare these days when it comes to BP title tracks) but i don't love it either. If you're going to go with full-on rapping for most of the track, at least make it interesting instead of the usual "we're better than everyone else" stick. this isn't powerful enough to be a title track imo

it's not bad at all, i do kind of vibe with it but tbh it's a little underwhelming for a post-hiatus comeback. the girls did amazing but yg really needs to step it up. i thought this was their most expensive mv yet but it doesn't look like it at all, their other mv's are way more iconic

I know this is not "typical" Blackpink sound like Pink Venom or other previous titles, but I'm glad they went a bit different route-- just from my view of a general casual listener knowing nothing about music in detail.

I'm going to talk about other artists for a moment.
I know there are others, in both rookies and established, that found and kept their signature styles and, in the labels' points of view of keeping the fans, they tend to play it safe than possibly risking losing them with different sounds/concepts in future comebacks.

For example, Purple Kiss [ rookie ] and Twice [ established ].

While Purple Kiss was finding their identity in music, I wished their label could have released a MV for Skip Skip-- a more hip hop song.

For Twice, since it seems like a majority or all of their title music were retro vibes, I wished their label could have released MV's that was different as either main or second title.

But, again, overall I think majority of labels would rather play it safe and than show versatility which is a bit disappointing-- even though some of you may think this is not that far of a stretch from the previous titles.

Personally, I LOVED the fact that all 4 of them rapped in the song.
We know Jisoo and Rosé can sing and belt when needed as evident in their previous tracks and side B's, but to hear them actually rap for this blew my ears and mind! I know it's a sample of an old classic music and, honestly, while I was kind of expecting a change somewhere, I'm glad it was kept the same throughout.

And I Loved the callbacks to their previous MV's because it reminded me of Girls' Generation's Forever 1 MV with their easter eggs.

Someone mentioned the lyrics sounded like they're, "better than everyone else."
To me, it didn't sound like that. It reminded me of aespa's Life's Too Short lyrics, but in a more aggressive manner towards the anti-fans/haters of Blackpink because, I at least believe, Blackpink members get crapped on more than any other group.

Edit ~ I forgot Pink Venom was their title track and this is their second one. So, now I'm very glad 2 titles were promoted from the album.
So, jesus_christ, you are right in saying this felt like a "B side" title.

I think they meant it that way since Pink Venom was the main track, if you remove the idea of that being a single release.

In other words, if they had dropped the album with Pink Venom MV first, then drop Shut Down MV a month later, we'd clearly know the latter was meant to be a second / side B since more of the budget went into PV. Yes, they could have spent a bit more time and budget for SD, but maybe they were on a time constraint. Who knows. So, technically, Shut Down was a second title / side B.
