I don’t usually make threads like this and I really hope this will just be a good, respectful conversation that we all can have. But why must some people (not talking about anyone here :nekolove: ) why must they feel compelled to comment on idols bodies?
I was scrolling through insta and saw a number of comments about people saying Ateez members looking “unhealthy” “too skinny” and “sickly” lately. It’s like for some reason people only think that fat-shaming is bad, but commenting on how they think that someone is “too skinny” is alright. :jisoosmh: As someone who has been told that “I would look better with more weight” or “I’m a stick”, it doesn’t feel good, at all. It makes you feel awful. Because you immediately think “Oh I’m disgusting, I’m unattractive, I’m not enough.” But when you try to please people by putting on weight, your now too “fat”. There is no winning. You would think with past stories of idols talking about these situations that we wouldn’t comment on their bodies but yet it still continues.
I understand that people worry. Bringing this back to Ateez members, yes the members have lost weight since their debut however I would not consider any of them to be “sickly thin” to me personally, and from what they’ve told us, their bodies fluctuate because of their busy schedules. Most of the members have said that most of them don’t eat breakfast very often but later on throughout the day they a LOT of food (these boys can pack a lot in :lisalaugh:) and that they all usually always eat a healthy amount of food. The only time they’ve said otherwise was when Wooyoung was only eating one meal a day to lose weight because in their earlier years he felt he was too chubby (he never was) and while I definitely don’t think what he did was the best way to go about losing weight, he has voiced and you can visually see that he is much more confident after he got to his weight goal. He is finally confident in his body and now “fans” are saying he looks sick:shamesica:
Ateez and other idols have such busy schedules, they’re constantly on the move and are constantly performing, their bodies are going to fluctuate because they are very active people (most the members have also started working out in the past year or so). In my opinion they all look healthy, even if they were technically underweight or overweight, it is nobody’s place to voice that they need to gain or lose weight.
Thank you very much for coming to my Ted Talk

big agree, of course idols diet and attempt to keep a thin physique, and of course at times its unhealthy, but constantly commenting "oh too much weight" "oh too little" "unhealthy" "I'm worried" "they should do this" will only make it worse.

you also can't really judge from just looks! deeming someone under/overweight just from looking at them on a screen or even irl isn't a good judge. for example, if I dress a certain way, I look thin because my arms and legs are quite thin, even though I eat a lot (and I also eat a lot of junk lmao) and yet people tell me I'm so skinny I need to eat more. on the other hand, my other friend eats the same amount of me but works out a lot and as a result they are more heavyset and people tell them to eat less, even though they're very healthy (and probably more healthy than me lmao). weight falls on us in different ways.

the more we nitpick how an idol looks adds to their insecurity, be it them being skinny or looking heavier.

and like?? seonghwa has actually gained a little more muscle during guerilla promotions, and none of them look particularly unhealthy and nor have they dropped a lot of weight in a startilingly short amount of time. jongho could probably still crush me

i hope I worded this properly lmao I'm on a bus rn
