Working with kids does not mean I want to have kids (1 Viewer)

Why do people assume that because I want to work with children automatically means I want to have children (via any means)? I was told recently during a lecture “when you all have kids…” like bruh why is that the assumption?

You can be good with kids but not have a desire to bring a child into the world. Not only is the world we live in absolutely terrifying, I know personally my mental health can’t do it. You can take a sick day from work but you can’t take a sick day from being a parent. What do I tell a hypothetical future kid : “hey I’m not doing well today, I can’t be your parent?”

Thank you, someone who gets it! I genuinely do like my daycare kiddos and I’m always excited to work with them but I don’t want kids of my own. People just automatically assume the two go hand in hand
