Several years ago, I personally had one idiot walking towards me on a narrow sidewalk with their face buried in the phone and they bumped into me but I did not say anything to cause problems. But, he did not even apologize and looked at me like I was the one not watching where I was going, yet, I was. WTF does that tell you???

Full on agreeing with you here. I will sound boomer af. It's pretty sad we, as humans, ended up like this and I say this as someone who used to be always glued to their phone or looking down at it while walking all the time. One day it clicked and I thought ''What the fuck am I even doing?'', so now when I walk I put my music on and leave my phone in my pocket or bag and I take the time to appreciate what's around me, enjoy the moment. It's so dangerous to walk while looking down and not paying attention at all, you are danger but you are also not paying attention to your surrounding basically vulnerable to accidents coming your way or even someone following you. Like you said, it's natural selection doing the hard work for all of us.
