Is it okay? Why or why not?

I'm personally perfectly okay with lip syncing. Kpop isn't solely about vocals. Visuals, choreography and fan interaction are huge pieces as well. I'd much rather go to a concert and see great choreo and fan interaction than go to one where they sing live but let the other two areas fall flat.

I'm okay with it sometimes. Idols can't be expected to sing live all the time.

But if it becomes too much...

I'm okay with it, Western artists do it a lot as well and Kpop usually involves far more intense choreo, singing live and sounding good while dancing is extremely difficult. And they'd have to do it for so long.

If it's a ballad or sometimes during concerts, I do hope they sing live but even if they don't it's not a dealbreaker to me.

I prefer they sing live particularly while sitting down or at concerts/ awards shows. People pay to see them in concert and anticipate their performance at awards shows so imo it would be disrespectful to lipsync.

While sitting, they're not doing hard choreo so they should be solely focused on singing.

Obviously lipsyncing is extremely common. I don't mind if they lipsync at music shows. Music shows are a regular occurence and they probably need to conserve energy and perform choreography.

Frequent lipsyncing is not going to stop me from liking a group but I'm going to side-eye them and question their capabilities a little (unless it's the company's choice... which is dumb).

The other part of this debate is that some members of a group aren't picked based on vocal technique. If the main dancer is a dance machine but the weakest one vocally, they shouldn't be judged for hiding behind the backing track because that isn't their main job

That's true. However, I think they should practice singing live to improve, and especially if they're sitting down, they should try their best.

Main and lead vocals should definitely try to sing live as much as possible.

Its very rarely okay. Its basically cheating the audience and If ur not going to sing and focus on dance just keep that mouth closed. Kpop is music genre and music is sound, dance and performances comes second besides most important Part of performance is delivering lyrics and emotions via singing. If i hear someone lipsynched performance i won't watch it cause there is no point. As u can see im anti ^^;

Everyone has their own opinion so it's perfectly okay! What mainly gets me looking at a fan sideways is if they use lipsyncing to bash other groups but then turn a blind eye if their bias is doing it

Some Kpop fans being hypocrites? Honestly what's new lmao.

Even for groups that don't lipsync, I don't think their fans should bash groups that lipsync.

That would be too rational :pandaroll:

Yea, I'm least into lipsynching when my favs do it since that's most disappointing for me. Luckily my favs don't/didn't lipsynch much- I mean Big Bang and 2NE1. They usually had less music show appearances than most and they don't have as much dance focus as some other groups so they have more room for vocals which I like and you can usually notice with them that they aren't lipsynching quite clearly cause they include vocal runs and other stuff that isn't in original track in the performances.

I guess for me the focus on vocals comes that I'm not really pop listener. Before kpop I listened mostly rock music and you rarely see rock artists lipsynch. If the bandmates are all playing their instruments it wouldn't make lot of sense for singer to just fake it. There is some music shows rock bands have to lipsynch- and fake play their instruments, but usually rock groups are loudly against this (which is why they rarely go to music shows) and I remember seeing one performance from MUSE where they trolled whole music show that didn't led them play live so they just changed positions, the drummer with singer and the host didn't even realize (they didn't inform the show) and just interviewed the drummer about his singing and vocals after the fake performance ^^;

Muse has been my favorite band since 2006 and you just made my night by bringing that up! When Matt starts raising his arms like an octopus while "playing" the drums :llama_squish:

I saw them in 2015 for their Drones World Tour and it's still the best concert I've ever been to :maheart:

This is pretty much how much how I feel about it. A lot of fans use it just to bash, and treat it like it's some sort of scandal. 😂 And don't realize it's commonplace.

I can understand preferring groups who lipsync less, but it's not bashworthy.
