Anyways moving on. Constipation is when a person has few bowel movements and had difficulty with them, often less than 3 times a week. However, normal bowel movements can be anywhere form three times a day to three times a week, it varies in the person.
Being one of the most common gastrointestinal complains, constipation can have many causes. These causes include: medication, not enough liquids, lack of exercise, not enough fiber, it stable bowel syndrome, ignoring the urge to have a bowel movement, changes in lifestyle or habit, problems with intestinal function, and abuse of laxatives.
Symptoms of constipation include difficult and painful bowel movements, bowel movements less than 3 times a week, abdominal pain, or feeling bloated or sluggish .
Constipation can be diagnosed by taking a medical history, a physical exam, lower GI series, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colorectal transit study, and anorectal function test. Treatment for consolation varies based on a variety of factors. Treatment can include changing medication, diet, biofeedback, lifestyle changes, or, if nothing else works, laxatives.
