Question about mushrooms (1 Viewer)

How do you clean them?
The internet is telling me to wipe them with a damp towel BUT >.> there's so much and they're dirty. Is it really that bad to just chuck them under running water?
What the hell does a waterlogged mushroom even taste like?

Before you mock and question me o.o I never ate mushroom before because of texture issues but I recently started liking them.
I signed up for some meal delivery kits like HelloFresh and GreenChef (great options for vegetarians, maybe ill make a thread on meal kits)
Some of the meals have mushrooms but I've never really cooked with mushrooms so that's why I'm asking.
These are baby bella mushrooms btw.

I despise mushrooms so don’t cook with them but iirc my sister puts mushrooms from the store under rubbing water to get the dirt off and I think she dries them after? I’m not certain

I'm taking the chance with running water then.
At least it's not meat. >.> weirdly cooked mushrooms won't kill me

i fill a bowl with cold water and then rub them one by one underwater. as long as u don't leave them in the bowl they don't absorb the water that quick

u rub the dirt underwater then put them on a kitchen towel so the water that's on the surface can dry and then they're good to go

it's important to wash them properly especially wild mushrooms

Sure, but it really depends where you buy your mushrooms
Some you can buy where I live are already cleaned

i just looked up the type of mushrooms u have and the method i mentioned should work, just don't keep them too much in the water

the bowl method helps u not waste water

also don't wash them under a water jet because the force basically makes the water infiltrate in the pores and it's also a lot of wasted water

I do a quick rinse on the mushrooms to remove some of the dirt and clean the mushrooms with a dry paper towel to remove the rest of the dirt.

If it's really dirty and need a proper cleaning, just wash them as quickly as possible.
If I know the origin of the mushrooms, I don't really wash them, only peel them a little.

They were for a mushroom mozzarella sandwich melt and it turned out delicious The mushrooms had the most flavor.
