Title: Death and the Choi Brothers
Once in the deep countryside of South Korea, three brothers named Choi Yeon-Jun, Choi Soo-Bin, and Choi Beom-Gyu were walking down a road so lonely and quiet that you could hear a pin drop. The only sounds escaping from the boys’ mouths were their breaths as they ambled along.
Eventually, the Choi brothers reached a river way too dangerous to cross without a bridge.
“There’s no bridge,” Beom-Gyu said in a panic. “What do we do?”
“We can just wave our wands, duh!” Yeon-Jun teased. “Remember, we’re TXT’s Choi line by day, but wizards by night. Watch and learn.”
The eldest brother amazed his juniors by forming a bridge with a simple flick of his wand.
“Let’s keep going!” he encouraged.
“No, look!” Soo-Bin shouted. “I see a hooded figure blocking our path! It’s…”
“Death!” the three of them chorused.
“Congratulations, boys,” Death said in an eerie tone. The brothers couldn’t tell if he was being sincere or sarcastic. “You have defeated Death by successfully crossing the most treacherous river in South Korea.”
He went on to say that the boys should each earn a prize for being so brave and asked each one what they wished for.
“I want the best damn wand you can conjure up,” Yeon-Jun requested, “so I can kill all the sasaengs that have hurt us.”
“Granted!” Death said as he quickly assembled a wand from an elder tree nearby. He gave it to him and asked Soo-Bin what he would like.
Soo-Bin laughed in spite of himself, having just thought of the perfect idea to humiliate Death even further:
“Give me the power to recall loved ones from the grave,” he said.
“Ah, I have just the thing!” Death told him, taking a stone from the river below. “Have this stone. How about you, Beom-Gyu?”
“Ahjussi, I would like to possess something that would prevent Death from following me everywhere I go,” Beom-Gyu replied ever so humbly.
Death sighed, because he knew this meant giving up his prized Invisibility Cloak, but he gave it to him anyway.
After they received their gifts, the brothers went their separate ways to make use of them.
Yeon-Jun went to a nearby village, where he used his Elder Wand to kill a “fan” who had leaked nude pictures of him on the internet. When she keeled over and died, Yeon-Jun bragged to his brothers and the other TXT members that he’d finally gotten the power to fight off their sasaengs. However, that night, the fan’s sister, who was also a sasaeng, caught wind of the killing and took revenge by taking the wand from Yeon-Jun’s hands and slitting his throat to his own death. Death soon took him into possession.
Soo-Bin went back to his home, where he turned the stone in his hand three times to hopefully conjure up his deceased fiancée, Kim Chae-Won. His wish came true when she suddenly appeared before him, but she quickly became cold and sad because she felt she didn’t belong in the modern world. Thus, Soo-Bin spiraled into a deep manic depression and took his own life just to be with her in heaven. This made him the second brother to succumb to Death.
The only brother remaining was Beom-Gyu, whom Death never was able to find. That is, until Beom-Gyu became older and weaker and was forced to pass his cloak down to his son to wear. When Death finally came for him, Beom-Gyu greeted him as an old friend, and they departed this life as equals.
