Georgia (the country) was one of the first places wine was thought to have been made. The Middle East was one also.

People crush grapes as part of the process by walking on them. This practice is used now as well as being used in ancient times.

In Vienna, a large ship building center would give its workers some amount of wine for free, and they even created a wine fountain. At its most, 10% of its budget was spent on wine.

Even in relatively recent times, lead was used to sweeten wine. This dated back from Greek times iirc, and even when banned people tried to get their way around it and sometimes still included it.

Champagne used to explode before people created special bottles for it. It also contains sediment, which collects at the top due to the practice of turning bottles over, and the sediment comes out with the other stuff when a bottle is uncorked.

During times of troubles between France and England, it is thought that merchant ships got “kidnapped” as a way around the ban on exporting of wine.

During the prohibition in the US, dried grape blocks were sold with a “warning” that if you add yeast and sugar, the process of fermentation would begin.

In Massachusetts, there used to exist a law that if buying alcohol, you needed to buy at least 15 gallons (57 liters) of it at once in an attempt to dissuade people from drinking. Wine was exempt from this law.
