Just out of curiosity at what point was everyone debuting at an older age? I know some 3rd gens were quite young, I can think of 2nd gens that were too young imo as well, and wasn’t Boa also quite young?

Imo 3rd gen and 1st were the oldest generations, 2nd and 4th gen had a lot 14-15 year olds, and to be fair, Canny likely will be 14 by the time she debuts.

I think the youngest Maknaes in 3rd gen were 16-17 instead of 14-15.


Kpop is growing to where wealthy children are being groomed for it from a young age, starting off as child actors and child models, rather than teens auditioning and starting their careers off then.
Somi (21), Ella Gross (14, who's probably gonna debut soon in Teddy's label), NewJeans Hyein (14), StayC Sieun (21), all have a significant amount of time in the industry already despite their ages. Outside of Hyein, who still has over 5 years of experience, everyone else I've mentioned has 10+ years of working already

I think SM in generall is more open to debut older Idols, even now. Irene was 23, Seulgi and Wendy 20
Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, Kyungsoo were 20/21, Xiumin, Kris and Luhan even older.
Aespa all were 19/20

I think they debut both older and younger ones, like Taemin or Boa were young and the ones you mentioned and one of the potential NCT trainees is like 26 I think. But Taemin, Jisung, and Boa were very young at debut for sure too.

I don't know much about bgs but I know Krystal, minzy, Sulli, Sohyun (4min), Hyuna, Sohee, Jiyoung (Kara) Jiyeon, Suzy and Taemin all debuted at 14.
What sets 2nd gen apart was the willingness to debut idols in their early 20s, which isn't really a thing anymore unless it's a much larger group like Izone, Rocket Punch or Cherry Bullet

I think most of 1st gen were adults outside of BoA, who is anomaly is most ways tbh
