This is definitely true for some people, but in my particular case, my family doesn't discuss politics at all. This is because this is something that doesn't come up in our usual discussions,

When it comes to primary and secondary education, there are many ways to do your education path (through public schools, private schools, charter schools, home-schooling, etc.). Also, you can get your GED, which is the equivalent of a High School Diploma if you dropped out of high school for whatever reasons

Post-secondary education such as college and university are optional because you have alternatives and also there are jobs that do pay well without a degree. On some occasions, there are students who do go to college and university because they either have scholarships (including full-ride scholarships, which cover everything) or some have to rely on loans to pay for their education.
