Does it make sense to compare rivalry between Twice and Blackpink to rivalry between SNSD and 2NE1? (1 Viewer)

Arguably Twice and Blackpink are two biggest girl groups at the moment when SNSD and 2NE1 were these in the past. The rivalry between Sones and Blackjacks was big thing and the comparisons never ended; who is more popular, who is better, who is more talented etc.

Now it seems like Twice and Blackpink as well as Onces and Blinks have similar rivalry?

Twice and SNSD: 9 members, cute concept, choreos with moves that became hits, physical sales..

Blackpink and 2NE1: 4 members, girl crush concept, focus on rap, criticized for vocals, digital sales..

So do you think the rivalry between Twice and Blackpink is just repetation of the rivalry between SNSD and 2NE1? Cause it kinda looks like that to me.

Obviously everyone would have a different opinion. I personally stay out of fanwars (at least most of the time lol) so I probably never really see most conflicts happen.

It does, because this rivalry will always exist, it will happen in the next gens too. People all have different tastes and one group will just never manage to satisfy everyone, so there will be big rivalries between groups which have opposing concepts :hmm:

In a way, it does. Then again, the surrounding is much different than it was 10 years ago. "Stanning methods" are different and there is much more investment nowadays. Arguably, they are two most successful groups of all times, but SNSD did a variety of concepts. BLACKPINK could be easily compared to 2NE1, but it's a bit of an overkill to compare TWICE to SNSD. Are TWICE and BLACKPINK rivals nowadays? Yes, definitely.

I kinda feel like generational switch is almost complete, but not quite. Black Pink has only rather recently rose to contender status to Twice with D4 and Square Up's success, before they were arguably lower than Red Velvet so there was multiple contenders rather than two clear rivalrs for the main spot. There is still lot of time for more intense fanwars between the two fandoms, but I think we are getting there

Well I think that's kinda part of generational switch, it's not like fans like to give up spot their bias group had ^^; (besides YG kinda replaced 2NE1 with Blackpink.. though I still think many BJ's are Blinks cause the style is similar to 2NE1 and Teddy is there). :pandawatch:

I wasn't around back then so I never really experienced it, but it seems like there are more top ggs now that also rind of detract attention away from those two so it not as much BP vs Twice? Then again I dont know old generation has well so I don't know where they would for into the past fanwars.

Well there were other contenders in the older gen as well to SNSD and 2NE1, Wonder Girls probably closest, but JYP made some bad choices and shipped them to USA for some weird reason. That never works out, unless the fandom is pushing you like with BTS and you can just reap benefits. But I think that's now happening with Twice and BP too, they are more clearly breaking away from rest of competition?

Nothing is set in stone though if it will continue like this. But looking at SNSD and 2NE1, it might make sense to have group that is quite like SNSD and group that is quite like 2NE1 in the top spots again. :pandawatch:

I can't really speak for Blackjacks but Blinks are definitely competitive.

I'd personally compare SNSD and Twice still, though I agree there is differences. I think there is quite important similarities though like getting popular with cute concept (Gee versus Cheer Up!) and I think the look is pretty similar too, focus on visuals that Korea would like. But I agree that there is differences too, I think what brings BP most close to 2NE1 is that their composer is same, Teddy. You could rather easily think many of BP's songs as 2NE1 songs with distribution and all.
