Arise

He woke up for the day
Letting the memories of last night
Come back slowly

Trickling in
Remembering the faces he hurt
The faces he loved
The faces he only saw briefly
The greasy foods he let
Poison his body

The drinks that tasted bitter in the moment but
He grew accustomed to quickly

He remembered letting the poison overtake him, cloud his main
He turned into a new kind of beast
A beast living on pure instinct

The pounding headache compelled him to rest further
And let slumber overtake him again

It hurt
Hurt everywhere
The pain on his legs
His arms
His chest
His head
His eyes

But

It wasn't worth thinking about
Rise again
Rinse

Repeat

Gentle hands

I didn't like touching people

Never did

and watched the frosting drizzle

Down on to the table
It plopped down
And spread out, slowly
Silky, shiny

Slimey

The knife pushed the surface and
The frosting spread over
The once dark surface
Being dyed a white color

I felt my tastebuds tingling
I wanted to reach and grab it
Without even thinking...
I could do it

But I kept on and
Continued frosting
Letting myself get lost in
The motions.

On top of the building
I stare out into the world

The people below
are so small
I feel like I could reach out

And they would splatter across the pavement

Looking through their eyes
You can see a world within them

They know things I don't know
and yet know so little

I could get lost in those eyes
Just like I am getting lost now
Watching all the little specs scatter

They don't have control over their paths
They let someone else take the push
And glide forward

They could smash into a wall and
Go in the opposite direction

They could be snatched up
Right as they are rolling
And be sent in another direction

Still, the only thing they know is to go
Unless they are forced to stop
They could go on forever

Feeling the sand push through my toes
It crumbled around them
It felt soft and yet
It tickled

Just a little bit

Taking one step forward
And another
I let this feeling become the new normal

The waters were next to me
Ever expanding, ever vast
A ship in the distance glided smoothly over the surface

It caught my attention, and I paused in my tracks
The wind offered a moment of relief
Cooling my neck gently
Pushing my hair into my eyes

I let it happen for a moment before
Using my hands to untangle the mess

I had a choice to pause a little longer but
I kept moving
That's all you can do

I caught the flu

You never notice when you catch it.

It can come from anywhere.

A hug from an old friend
The kiss of your mother
The soft touch of a stranger
In the air
A friendly dog

Anywhere

Once you catch it
It spreads through you
Slowly

You cough a bit
You feel pain in your chest
Feverish
On fire
Everything tastes disgusting
You want to eat but you can’t help but
Throw up
Everywhere

So I am resting in my bedsheets
Time becoming prison
It goes so slow

A never ending nightmare
I try to sleep through it
I hope it goes away

I love that line! I like it when people don't follow poetry rules. You always get really interesting word play and sentence structure.

Yeah personally, I rarely follow like, specific style of rules of writing, I do like playing a bit with pattern here and there, but I LOVE breaking it. Just kind of disrupting the pacing every once in awhile. I think it makes the experience less predictable and more interesting.
