No, I’m terrible at eye contact. I just can’t do it. I keep on worrying that I’ll end up accidentally staring without meaning to or that it’ll seem creepy and/or unnatural to look in the same place that much.

Thankfully, one of my friends in real life doesn’t really like eye contact that much, so it makes my life so much easier.

What type of Martial Arts did you learn?

Tae Kwon Do
Aikido

Quite different, but both had tremendous value and taught me a great deal. Aikido was my fav of the two.

I would say my love for Korean/Japanese culture started way back then too. I've always said, I was born in the wrong part of the world. My body may be in the west, but my heart is in the east.

Ummm, you're doing it right. Eye contact weaponized is supposed to make people feel uncomfortable. Here is mental exercise. When your making eye contact with someone you respect, mentally say, "I respect you and am your equal". If your weaponizing eye contact mentally say, "I am your superior" or if your really pissed, "I'm going to destroy you". Mentally stating why you are why your making the eye contact kind of cue's your body to respond correctly. I hope that makes some sense. Now, go make someone feel bad!

This actually is good advice and does make me feel a bit better about it. I’ll try it sometime.

I forgot the most important part. You should always make eye contact with people you you truly respect and care about. "Your important enough to me to take the time to look you in the eye because I care." It's why they have couples in Couples therapy practice looking each other in the eye. This isn't just for couples, friends should look each other in the eye too.

I do this with certain co workers because I want them to really understand that they make my job easier and possible. It still amazes me the difference it can make.
